UCLA: Is anyone worried they wont get any classes they want/need?

There has been 2 orientation sessions so far, and pretty much every student at UCLA has picked their classes by now, and a lot of the classes i wanted to take or need for my major are almost full, and there will still be another 2 orientations until my session 205!

I had 2 classes I need and like 4 back up electives I could take and one is full and the rest only have a few spots left...

does anyone else have this concern that they wont end up with any classes they want or need for their major?

I got stuck with 205 too! The few times I’ve checked for the classes I want/need there has still been space but 205 is two weeks away so who knows by then. =l

ps. what’s your major?

im a philosophy major which isnt an impacted major and the classes are filling up and we still have 2 more orientationssss to go ugh I just wnana get one major class

what is your major

that sucks! i’m a psych major but i’m looking to change to history so the classes I have planned are for history =l. good look to us

lets have like 10 back up classes lol this sucks! f**k the system for crashing at 3 making me get this bad orientation date lol

I’m an anthro major and there is one prereq that my CC didn’t have and there are only 30 spots left out of 255. I’m not worried about any of the other classes I want but this one is the most important.

^Oh, CRAP! Please tell me you’re not talking about the Culture and communication class?! :frowning: I need that one, too!

Math 170A is already full and Econ 101 looks like its filling up T_T

what am i gonna take

i think a lot of us in later dates may have to end up taking classes we don’t even need. grrr

@evan- we should have taken 203! :(

Nope! Not worried at all. I emailed my advisor and she told me not to worry, because I will get into my first set of classes chosen. ^-^

…EVEN AT 206!!! :D

orientation counselors should have override codes for you. some classes may appear to be closed but in reality they are holding spots for you.

Evan,
I’m a Phil major too. Most of the Phil classes are getting filled quickly, or have already been filled. I just came back from orientation last night. If you completed all of your major prereq’s then you need to take PHIL 100A, which is History of Greek Phil. You’ll probably be able to get into that class, because there are many spots available. But make sure you have backups

Evan: That’s exactly the class I’m talking about. I looked at the tentative winter and spring quarter class schedules. Its not up for winter but it is in there for spring. We may have to wait that long to take that class.

I’m not transferring till next year, but something that worries me is transferring and not being able to finish in 2 years because lack of classes. with fee increases and all that it would suck to have to spend an extra semester because i couldn’t get the classes i needed.

@ lakers yeah as long as I get phill 100a ill be content because I dont wanna have to wwait all the way till next fall to take it

if i get that I will take another upper division phil class if there are any good ones open (any suggestions??) and a random elective, with 5 back up electives lol

I’m taking Phil 183 as well, but it’s almost filled up. I’m in, but I’m still on waitlist for the discussion. The Phil Department chair also told us at orientation not to take 3 or more phil classes in 1 quarter. So I suggest you try to get 2 Phil classes (100A and something else) and then 1 or 2 electives/interesting classes(upper div)

I transferred last year. I had a late orientation. I’m not sure if other advisers did this to their group, but my adviser had us enroll in 3 classes that were open, regardless of the department or if they fulfilled any requirements. That was “her job”. The problem with this is that it often leads students to enroll in classes they don’t need. The reality is that most often than not even if you enroll in a class that has a waiting list(larger classes), you’ll most likely end up getting in. They tend to open up spots the closer it gets to the first week of classes. If they don’t, even if you’re on a waiting list, most professors tend to accommodate those on the waiting list. That or many students tend to drop or change their schedule the first two weeks of school which allows you to enroll.

If you really want a class that is closed, my advise is to keep checking daily, because the closer you get to the first week of classes, people tend to also change classes and a spot may open up.

darn im in 207

@shanahanyang- ME TOO.
