Was this a dumb decision? Out of all the schools I am applying to, UCLA is the lowest. So if don't even get accepted there, I am going to community college. I am only applying to like 7 colleges, but my parents are overwhelmed by the costs of applying.

Honestly, while UCLA is a bit of a risk for a safety you should be fine. You have a very good chance there. Plus, you got ELC which they absolutely LOVE.

apply to sd or davis or something. ucla’s screwed up – they’ve rejected so many ivy people that i don’t know what adcoms are thinking anymore over there…

but yeah, my friend applied berk and la and ivies and got saved by berkeley (got rejected from everywhere else). he’s lucky he got accepted…or else it would have been CC for him

Although your stats are really strong, UCLA is of comparable competitiveness to lower ivies, and far more numbers based than EC-based. So honestly, as harsh as this sounds, I wouldn’t use UCLA as a safety without absoloutlye perfect stats. I think you have a really high chance of getting in, but it’s not gaurunteed (especially with CA’s budget being the way it is right now), and a safety must be truely gaurunteed to qualify as a true safety. You could take a risk and use it, but, since you are ELC, I would strongly reccomend also sending your application to UC Davis, or another one that gauruntees admission to ELC students.

You should be aware though, that if you don’t get in anywhere and end up at a California JC, you can transfer to UCLA pretty easily after two years.

I already sent the UC application with only UC Berkeley and UCLA.
I live in California btw, and have seen students with 2000 SAT scores and 3’s on all their AP’s get in. Doesn’t mean I necessarily will, but it does give me a lot of hope.

The number of applications from students with perfect grades/SATs will increase at UCB/UCLA while it will decrease at private colleges.
Since cost is a factor for you, it will be nice to apply to other UCs. Since you are not sending SAT1 that indicates it is not a strong score. This is what our College Counselor consider as a safe bet for UCLA
Rigorous course curriculum (6 or more APs with A by junior year)

You must be feeling a little worried about this strategy, or you wouldn’t have created a thread to chat about it.
There is still a week to go in the UC application period for Fall 2009. Why don’t you add another UC that is less selective than UCLA?

You actually still have 2 weeks to change it (though I don’t know how it works if you already submitted). I’m applying to UCSD as well just in case.

I think people are overreacting, though. I have similar stats (better scores, worse ECs) and I would be surprised if I didn’t get into both UCLA and UCB. A lot of people from my school with significantly worse stats have got into both in the last few years. My brother also had similar stats two years ago, and he got a regent’s scholarship at UCLA.
