I have not received anything, I think I am hosed …

@SanDMom2011 - Thank you so much and much success to your D as well! My D has several favorites with UCLA and a Cal State U. being at the top of her list. She knows wherever she goes that she will have a fine time. What she has found in this whole process is that there are many kind and wonderful people in all the schools to which she applied. She really loves the engineering community at the CSU and has been very impressed with UCLA. What is important to her is that she feels at home at the college and a part of the greater community.

But what I think she wants now is for the whole acceptance/rejection process to be over so that she can focus on the next phase, instead of feeling like she is in limbo.

@theleakers - You are very right. There are tons of different roads to take and many different opportunities available. It really all depends not on where you go, but how much dedication, thought, and focus you put into the whole experience. I’m a proud product of the Cal State system and I can truly say that many, many of my classmates have become the “movers and shakers” in our city and beyond. I have seen so many young people head off to a prestigious university, only to return home within a semester or year. And then, they dust themselves off, go to a community college or our local CSU and find many more wonderful possibilities than they ever thought were possible. And I’ve also seen students go to a community college/CSU and then transfer to a very selective school, and fit right in. There are so many outstanding schools out there, you will find the right one for you.

I got this email from UCLA as well. What are my odds of getting in if I’ve got it?

If you got the letter, you’re 99.99% in.

wow congrats guys, i saw this thread as one of the thread i posted in like 4 years ago, can’t believe someone was able to dig it up!

I got the emails from both schools! From what I gather, I will get into UCLA and my fate at UCSD is not certain yet. I’m fine though because I prefer UCLA to UCSD anyway!

^^It’s only been a year.

This year’s letter includes the following: “As youre making plans to attend the Engineering Open House on April 10, we hope youll make it a complete UCLA Weekend by also coming here on Saturday, April 9 for Bruin Day, when the entire campus will be open to you and your guests.”

Bruin Day is UCLA’s ADMITTED STUDENT DAY. I think that pretty much proves that the lucky recipients of the Engineering Open House invitaton are in. It does NOT mean that if you didn’t get one, you are not it (there was one poster from last year who said he didn’t get it but got into HSSEAS).

My daughter received one, and it also specifically told her that there was a Bioengineering Engineering forum immediately following the general presentation. Other samples say Mechanical and Aeronautical or whatever. Bioengineering was her first choice (but very hard to get into), so I’m not sure if that means she got into her major or if they just list your first choice major to peak your interest.

Did everybody’s email have their first choice major listed or did anyone have their second choice major listed?

I got the email too, and it did mention Computer Science; my first choice major. While Bruin Day may be the Official Admitted Students Day, they may just be asking you to attend so you can see what the students and activities are like, not because you’re officially admitted. Also, it would definitely be weird if they invited you there and then said, “Oops, sorry. You’re rejected!”
Fingers crossed for now, I;m just hoping for the best. Any idea when the official results are coming out?

Edit : I looked at the Bruin Day website, and on the RSVP page, it says admitted students will receive an invitation to Bruin Day in mid march. Now the email from HSSEAS clearly states,* “As you’re making plans to attend the Engineering Open House on April 10, we hope you’ll make it a complete UCLA Weekend by also coming here on Saturday, April 9 for Bruin Day, when the entire campus will be open to you and your guests.”*
It also mentions that we should RSVP to Bruin Day separately. I get the feeling that they’re hinting at admission but they don’t really want to confirm it yet.

No email for S :(. Applying for Computer Engineering, OOS, 2190 SAT, 33 ACT, 3.9 W GPA. Just hoping he is borderline but still in the hunt. I guess we’ll find out soon enough, maybe even this Friday evening?

I got the letter too!

GPA 3.8 unweighted, 4.5 weighted
Class Rank 41/350 (my school has some crazy-smart people and a max of 19 weighted classes per student)
ACT 33 (36 in math/science.)
SAT Subject Tests Math 2 800, Physics 700, French 790
I’m pretty confident about my essays and ECs, but I thought the Physics was going to bring me down.

I really hope this means I’m in!

so I didn’t peruse the last wall of text that were those fifteen pages, but I guess I thought that the presentation after was for everyone, and I didn’t pick up the fact that it might be geared toward us. too much going on at the moment, haha.

I guess see you all there? :)

around 15 people from my school received this email. each was academically well qualified (4.0+ GPA, 2000+ SAT) so congrats to everyone who got in.

How many students does UCLA accept into engineering? It seems like an awful lot of candidates are receiving these letters.

I’d like more people from the classes of 2013/14 to confirm this before I start dancing around my living room and yelling in joy. Does anyone have a Daughter/Son or Brother/Sister who applied recently to HSSEAS and got this letter?

I applied last year, got the letter, and got in.

As far as you know, did your friends who applied last year get the letter before they got in? Did all the people who got the letter get in? If possible, find out from both your friends who applied with you and the people you met at UCLA.
I know it sounds panicky, but I’m very excited.

Same here. Acceptees, let us know!

It’s already been repeated a number of times. These “likely” letters are sent out every year.

If you received the letter and applied to HSSEAS, you’re in. If you didn’t receive the letter, you’re not necessarily rejected but the odds are against you.
