Did you guys get them yesterday (Friday)? Or this morning

my mailbox shows:
March 6, 2010 12:29:25 AM EST
hope this helps : )

Thanks, that’s interesting. I was thinking these would have been sent sometime within the business hours of the school (which basically closes at 5 PM) but it seems like they still sent them out after

I guess the subject scores helped for me.

Any idea roughly when actual decisions come out? I know it’s some time in mid to late March, but is there a specific date around which they usually release decisions?

I got the email too from HSSEAS. It was sent Friday @ 9:48 p.m. PST. See you all at the Engineering Open House on April 11!

i think last year it was 3/19

Yes, my son got an email too today from the UCLA Henry Samuel School of Engineering… It invited him to the same reception as the rest of you. His stats weren’t as high as a lot of yours, he had 4.0 GPA unweighted, SAT 1890 but ACT 31, Math in ACT was 35 though…SAT II scores for Math were 800, Chemistry 740. He has always said he would not go to UCLA even if he got in, as we live in Los Angeles and it is too close to home. Still, we will attend the reception and see what he thinks. He is an aerospace engineering major.

i got one!!!
major: aerospace engineering

but i’m also very surprised.
4.4 gpa
1930 sat
740 math II, 690 Bio
100 hours comm. service
but i think i had an amazing personal statement.
and i’m not a citizen, i have a green card.
but i did get the ELC. top 4% in class.

I too got this letter. I rationalized it as an acceptance in my head, anyway. Why would they invite someone that may not be accepted to an engineering house? Especially with the preface “we’ve identified you as a competitive applicant”.

How useful are these sessions ? Is there an opportunity to get individual specific response ? Plus if anyone is catching a flight to LA from the Bay Area on 11th lemme know …we can share a cab from the airport & back …
Cheers & Good Luck !

I wouldn’t start celebrating quite yet guys. I got one, and I only have a 2150 SAT and a 3.86 W. AKA, I have a pretty bad chance.Possible that they sent these out only on the basis of SAT scores. It seems that everyone posting got about that score or higher.

I got the letter two years ago with a 1980 SAT and a pretty high gpa. I think engineering weighs your gpa heavily because the administrators know that your gpa will suffer once you get here. They want students will good work ethics and a high gpa shows that. The SAT doesn’t dictate whether you will succeed in engineering or college as a whole. As a matter of fact, I heard that the SAT will be terminated in 2015. I didn’t go all out in ECs either, and I also got into Berkeley. So all of you guys who got the letter are pretty much in. BTW, I’m majoring in mechanical engineering.

^eh, it’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll be in. HSSEAS is the one who picks out those accepted anyways, not the college of L&S.

I got one too!

Haha I hope it’s good news, because my stats aren’t that great. Well, not being cocky or anything, but its really only my GPA that I see as holding me down.

HS: Large, Public, rates top 100 in nation
GPA: 3.6 UW, 3.93 W
SAT: 2300
SATII: 2350 (Math, Physics, Chem)
AP’s: 5’s
EC’s: Science Olympiad, Science Bowl, Research, Science Fair
Awards: Not too many.

I’m actually pretty surprised, because my school typically admits at least 30 to UCLA every year, but the LOWEST UW/W GPA admitted in the past couple years was 3.8/4.1. In fact, It’s so bad that my counselor told me it might not even be worth applying to UCLA because of the amount of weight they place on GPA.

Hmm, I’m still not convinced this is a guarantee, but maybe my EC’s and SAT brought me up. Either way, we’ll see in a couple weeks.

Yes. That letter means that you’re in. Congratulations.

I’m a current student (civil engr.) but I think I’ll sneak in on the open house just for fun. Bring back memories from… gosh it’s been a year already.

sat_gangsta, I know everyone says engineering is focusing on grades and yours are not quite as high as you think they should be.
What were your grades for math and sciences?
Your SAT IIs and APs must be high.
Your ECs are very math/science oriented.

Btw does it ruin my chance that I didn’t send in my Math II score? I took it and got a 600 (very low for what I feel I’m capable of getting, honestly), but I decided to send in my other scores (720 and 750) instead. I know they encourage taking and sending the Math II scores for the school of engineering but is it actually a make or break kind of scenario? I’d hope not, I’ve covered all other bases.

dtn521 please see pm.

i’m really excited for the next few weeks. i can’t wait till the official acceptance letters.
btw, does anyone know when the open house ends?

got the email yesterday and only got a 1940 which is crap compared to everyone who seems to be getting in. (M. 660, CR. 630, W. 650) a 710 on Math II, 640 in physics, and 620 on Chem. nothing special, so i doubt its just SAT scores alone…
