i got one 2.5 hours ago! yayyy!

got one! whee :)

I got one! This is really good news. UCLA Engineering is so good! Is it better than University of Michigan Engineering?

From what I gather from skimming through the eight pages of this thread, people in the past who have received these letters were eventually admitted! (Aside from one student who was rescinded because he had earned a D in his senior year for AP Bio.) So I am taking this as an acceptance. :D

To those of you who did not receive the letter, you have not necessarily been rejected. In post *124, isobell said that he hadn’t received a “likely letter” but was eventually accepted. I hope this makes all of you less nervous. :)

Hey i received one too … so is this like a likely letter??

I got one for EE (even though I applied undecided). I don’t think I’m a particularly strong OOS applicant, so I’m not sure why I got one.

Since I know a person is going to ask “can someone please post their stats who got the letter,” I’ll do it now.

Stats:
OOS Applicant
Asian Male
GPA (only 10th + 11th grade): (6 AP Classes in those 2 years, we have a different scale but my Class rank is 20/538 = top 3.8%), most rigorous curriculum in grade

ACT: 34 (36M, 34S, 33E, 32R, 32E/W)…however, on a previous testing I received a 36S and a 12/12 essay but still a 32 E/W
Sat Subject Tests: 780 Chem, 800 Math 2

Essays: Excellent, one of the few essays I actually didn’t procrastinate on ;)

Extracurricular activities:
-Nationally ranked table tennis player- many local, regional, state and some multi-state awards [started and president of club at school], actually, the head of table tennis at Berkeley wrote me a recommendation for this…2000+ hours spent on table tennis for the last 4 years
- 6 years Sci Bowl (Captain for last 2 years, state champs 3 years, B team placed top 10 each year in states), trained middle schoolers, huge time commitment…
-6 years Math team - AIME Qualifier, Qualified for states and New Englands, A team for 11th and 12th, regional champs and top state team for last 4 years, Euler Award, award for 3rd highest scoring junior in league
-Chess (for about 11 years?) team Vice President + Co-captain- 10th grade and 11th grade city champion and our school was champs both years, taught chess to kids at library over summer…20+ trophies since 3rd grade - 250+ hours of research at 2 different universities, concurrently worked on 3 projects at the same time, 2 with a professor and 1 independent, finished research papers for 2 of the projects, School state science fair 2nd Place chem, 1st place Earth Science, State Science Fair qualifier, accepted to JSHS X2, part of school’s chem Olympiad team- our combined score of 9 people got us 1st out of 32 schools in state

And, you know, the usual…250+ hours community service, FLHS, NHS, SHS, NSHSS, AP Scholar with distinction stuff

Is there any for the College of Letters and Sciences?

WongTongTong, you are a very strong OOS applicant. What are you talking about?

helpperman89: Not that I have heard of.

Is UCLA releasing decisions all on the same day?

? Doesn’t UCLA have one of the best engineering programs in the US? I thought with 60K+ applicants and with me being an OOS who applied Undecided Engineering, it would be very hard to get into UCLA engineering.

Also, in case some one is wondering about when the emails were sent out, I got mine at 12:18 AM Eastern (so 9:18 AM Pacific, if I did that correctly)

haha wongtongtong is funny…

Your stats are wonderful WongTongTong. My stats aren’t as high up as yours (my test scores are barely sub 2000), but my grades are up there. I am shocked that I got one, but I am happy that I got one. I’m reading through the forums and there seems to be a direct correlation with getting this email and getting in! Am I right?

is computer science in the college of engineering ???

I am pretty sure it is, because the email is from HSSEAS, which is the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science!

I received the email 10:00 PM yesterday PST.

can someone post a copy of the letter, what makes it look like a likely letter? Thanks…

This is the email:
We have received your application to UCLA’s Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS). Your application is among those which I consider highly competitive. However, it is still too soon for admission decisions to be announced. To learn of the official decision, check the Undergraduate and Admissions and Relations with Schools (UARS) website [Admission Decisions - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](UCLA myApplication Status) in mid-to-late March. You will receive an email from UARS when decisions are available online.

The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of an important event for applicants interested in learning more about the wonderful educational experience HSSEAS and UCLA have to offer.

I cordially invite you and your parents to attend an Engineering Open House on Sunday, April 10, 2011. The General Meeting will start at 9:30 A.M. in Royce Hall where you will be provided with information about the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA housing, and financial aid. Upon conclusion of the General Meeting, a presentation will be given by the Bioengineering Department, after which you will be escorted to lunch and to a subsequent informal meeting with students, faculty, and alumni. Our Open House agenda is designed to provide valuable information about HSSEAS, its academic departments and programs.

Please visit our website [2011 Engineering Freshman Open House — UCLA Engineering Office of Academic and Student Affairs](http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/events/freshman-open-house/2011/) for further information about the agenda, travel information, and the School. We ask that you let us know whether you plan to attend the Open House by using your Reservation ID, , and the “RSVP” link at the website no later than Friday, March 25, 2011. At the website you will also find a map of UCLA and parking instructions for Open House. We suggest you arrive about 45 minutes early to provide time to secure parking and enjoy the short walk to Royce Hall. Questions may be directed to Michel Moraga, counselor in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, at (310) 825-5760 or by email to openhouse2011@ea.ucla.edu.

As you’re making plans to attend the Engineering Open House on April 10, we hope you’ll make it a complete UCLA Weekend by also coming here on Saturday, April 9 for Bruin Day, when the entire campus will be open to you and your guests. At Bruin Day, you’ll get a personal feel for UCLA’s energized students, the extraordinary undergraduate programs, and the biggest selection of events, arts, recreation, and happenings at any university. You must RSVP to Bruin Day separately by visiting [UCLA Bruin Day | Picture Yourself Here. April 9, 2011](http://www.bruinday.ucla.edu).

Having reviewed your application, I want to congratulate you on your fine work in high school. I look forward to seeing you in person on April 10.

Warm Regards,

The reason that it is a likely letter is because it is an invitation to go to an open house AFTER admissions have been released, because they have said that my application is “highly competitive”, and because everyone that has gotten this letter has been admitted before.

I didn’t get one, I guess you didn’t get one either, shoooot …

I got one 8 hours ago…pretty excited now

God I wish they hadn’t sent me this letter! I’m totally obsessing over UCLA now and wondering whether or not I will get in…

mickjagger, did you check your email ???

Where did you see that everyone who has gotten this letter before has been admitted?

theleakers: Yes, and I received a “likely letter.” Nonetheless, there’s no telling that my acceptance is guaranteed. So basically I’ve started obsessing over this school! But who knows if I will really end up getting in?

I actually hadn’t been thinking about college acceptance letters at all. But now I go on College Confidential really often. These few weeks just won’t pass by fast enough…
