and if i end up wanting to take up pre-med or change my major to biz econ, can i take these GE clusters? Or am i on my own on the road to fill pre-req's?

About the clusters:i love the history of social thought cluster, they say you lunch with faculty twice a week and dinner with them weekly! that's definitely cool.

Yet, the biotechnology cluster and biomedical policy cluster sound great too. Would I have to take some science related cluster if i were to major in biology?

It's recommended that you take a cluster OUTSIDE of your intended major. For example, I'm a polysci major, but I'm taking the biotechnology cluster to get rid of science GE's. If you take the biotech cluster and you're pre-med, you're basically not helping yourself get rid of GE's because your bio major would've required you to take life science GE's anyway. (im not sure if I explained that clearly). However, there are many bio major or pre-med kids in the biotech class too, simply because they are interested in the topic ... then in terms of classes, this just becomes an elective.

if you're really interested in biotech, i'd recommend the biotech cluster, it's pretty good i would say. we also got to do some nice labs too. we had the chance to sit down and eat with faculty and guest speakers maybe 3-4 times a quarter. basically, clusters are designed to be freshmen-friendly.

i heard the history of social thought cluster is interesting but VERY HARD. the toughest of all the clusters.

if youre undecided between pre-med and biz econ but you want to get rid of GE requirements, then any non-life science cluster will help you accomplish that task. clusters are open for all majors. my personal opinion is that it's just better to take clusters outside your major so that you can get rid of GE's elsewhere, since you'll be getting rid of other GE's through your major anyway.

Skybaker--
I decided to take classes that seemed interesting and would knock our GE requiremenrs.

Psych 10 w/ Addison (I was considering the major)

Women's Studies 10 w/ Bays (best decision I have ever made, this class was just meant to be a GE filler but WS is on its way to being my double major, yay)

German 57 (Hollywood and Germany) w/ Hewitt (TA: Charlton Payne)- GREAT class to knock out a GE. This is also led me to getting a prive from the German Dept at UCLA (despite not knowing the language), score!. :)

Psych 10 with Zaidel - sucked but relatively easy A (unfortunately i didn't do some reading and got a B+, which is sad since it's supposed to be a GPA booster)

Considering that Biology and Molecular Cell Biology are both in the same department of College of L&S, would it be easy for my to change from Biology to MCB? I am a community college transfer who has been accepted to UCLA for the Biology program. Last Novmber during the application period I had no idea if I wanted to do MCB, but after taking an MCB class I love it. I applied to Cal for the MCB major(didn't see Intigrative Bio) and got in, but I want to go to UCLA for certain personal reasons.

yes it would be easy for you to change from biology to MCDBio. they actually share all of the life sciences core curriculum pre-reqs (that are shared by other bio related majors) i think. it's just the upper division classes that you'll be specializing in that will be different.

for transfers, exactly when is it that you are allowed the opportunity to change majors? Is it after the first quarter is over? How high does your gpa have to be in order to change majors within the college of letters and science(ex:history to economics/international relations or psychology)?
