A little update. I also have another question for all the math majors.

I went to my orientation yesterday, what an eye-opener! I realize I grossly underestimated the intensity of my original plan. Needless to say, a lot of things happened.

First, the math adviser STRONGLY discouraged us from taking Math 131A. This and the fact that most of my teachers at my CC told me it was pretty much the hardest class in the major makes me not want to take it this fall.

However, despite not taking math 33A (lower division Linear Alg), I convinced the math adviser to allow me to enroll in Math 115. I think another reason I was allowed to do this is because, apparently, it is EXTREMELY important that incoming transfers take 115 in their first quarter so they can take other upper division classes later on and graduate on time.

As a result of all this, I will only be taking one math class this fall. Despite not taking linear alg at a community college, I have been doing self-study and will even familiarize myself with the 115A stuff before classes even begin on the 24th.

As of right now, Iām enrolled in 4 classes, 18 units. two upper division accounting, upper division econ, and Math 115A. I know most people take 3 classes and the Orientation Counselors STRONGLY discourage taking 4 classes in the first term. Furthermore, I am only enrolled in the ānormalā section of Linear Algebra. This means that I will not be eligible for either the scholars or honors program.

So here is my new question.

Would it be a better idea to drop economics (must do this because of schedule conflict) and switch into the honors linear algebra (Math 115AH)? This way I am only taking three classes (Linear Alg + 2 accounting) and am still eligible for the honors program. Although I havenāt actually taken lower division linear algebra, I will be doing self-study for the course. I also know another girl asked the adviser if she could take Math 115AH and was told that it would be unwise.

Which would be better? I personally am leaning more towards dropping that econ class and taking Math 115AH.
