Which did you get? Is 14P worth it over just 14? Also, if I picked 14, can I upgrade to 19 during the year?

edit: woops, found a good thread on this topic. Sorry for making this thread! It's not letting me delete it though..

could you post a link to the good thread? thanks!!

without time to explain right now. 14P is far superior over 14

The UCLA housing thread addresses it well. Here’s the info: "
MEAL PLANS
-11 cub, 14 Blue, 14 Premier, 19 Gold, 19 Premier
-meal periods: 7a-11a, 11a-5p, 5p-10p, 10p-12a, 12a-2a.
-14P and 19P gives you all your meals for the quarter and lets you swipe multiple times per dining period (so you can swipe friends in to the dining halls or get a sandwich and a smoothie at bruin cafe, etc)
-11C, 14B, 19G gives you swipes for the week (11 or 14 or 19). you can swipe once per meal period only.
-most people have 14P or 14B. if anticipate going home every weekend, think about 11C or 14P. if you plan on being here all the time or mostly all the time, 14B will be best and cheapest, though you can upgrade to 14P if you want more flexibility. if you are a true morning person and will wake up for breakfast every day even if you have like 10, 11, 12 o’clock classes, then get 19G/19P. i’d recommend 19P if you’re thinking about getting 19 meals, because it will be easier to use ones that you miss (and you’ll probably miss a lot)…"

Why is 14P more expensive than 19G? Sure you’ll miss some meals with 19G but you’ll get more meals in the long run.

Because 19G isn’t as flexible as 14P. In a sense, there is no ‘long run’ because the meals you’ve missed don’t roll over like 14P allows. So once you’ve missed grabbing yourself a meal for one period (even if it’s between 12a-2a), you have to say bye-bye to your money (for that meal, anyway) for. eh. ver. It’s confusing, I know. I’m still trying to figure out the math of it all.

Do you guys know if it’s possible to change the meal plan after we’ve submitted our housing deposit?

yeah you can upgrade…probably tougher to downgrade

Students may change their selected meal plan at anytime by submitting an email using Ask Housing. There is a $25 fee to change meal plans.

Thank you Lakerss! I looked up Ask Housing and found this:

I understand that. What I am saying is that with the five more meals a week you wouldn’t even care if you missed a couple because you would surely have enough each week. Too me it seems like its worth more but costs less.

The advantage of 14P is that you can treat your friends during the same meal period. With 19, you can only have one meal per meal period.

^ Yeah. My friends love UCLA food so I’ll have to swipe them every once in a while. You can also grab food more than once yourself (as opposed to bringing a friend) during a meal period. It’s just a ‘better’ plan in general, but I see what you mean with 19G. I’m still contemplating.
