UCLA Move-in Assistant

anyone gonna sign up for this? i got an email and i guess your duties will be decorating things and putting things up and stuff to welcome new incoming students. if you sign up for this, you'll be able to move in earlier than the other student bodies... anyone else gonna do this? im thinking about it. i want to get my single bed cause im in a triple hahaha

Oh hey, that actually looks like fun.

hmmm, that sounds pretty awesome. i didn't get an e-mail about it.

i'd like to be at UCLA earlier! i miss the weather! it's freaking hot here!

I was a move-in assistant last year, and I thought it was worth it.
You get to move in early, which is nice since you don't need to deal with all the traffic/crowds during normal move-in times.

Also, if you live in one of the Riebers, they'll probably let you use Rieber turnaround to move in instead of shuttling from Lot 7 like they make people do normally.

Plus free food for those couple of days, free t-shirt and you get a chance to meet people in your building.

As for duties, it probably depends on which building you're in or how many move-in assistants they have, but what I mostly did is guide people to where they're supposed to go, bring people carts, answer questions (like where the bathroom is) and make a couple posters.

ahem and doors to some other rooms were open due to maintenance, so if you wanted to get a better chair/mattress/ladder...

hey dbguy4eva, i know this is true for CAL but i don't see why it wouldn't be true for UCLA as well.

For cal. if you're in a triple & all 3 rommates agree you may request the bunk beds to be taken off into 3 separate beds. Though, there will be less space around your room, its possible. Thats if you don't have a standard triple or something, but you should look into it if thats what you want.

no, for UCLA the bunk beds are pretty much welded or nailed together. you can move the bunk beds around, I've seen the football players move all of the bunks right next to the window.

I suggest you get the loft. I got the loft and I liked it a lot. A lot of people don't like the loft, apparently, but I like the fact that my desk and bed are all together in one little corner.

btw, get a longer internet cable and extension cords. also you have to go down to the CBC (there's another name, i don't know what it's called) and get the internet cable splitter. that is, if you want to use internet the first day.

what do you mean get the loft? where?

what does cbc stand for? internet is not wireless? so i would have to bring my own cables?

yeah, bring your own cable. in the newer buildings, there is SOME wireless in the lounges, definitely not in your room, but don't hold your breath.

if you're in a triple, there will be a loft. the loft is a bed that is like the top bunk bed, without the bed below, just the desk and a cabinet. the loft can also be called the "single bed."

i wish i can remember what "CBC" stands for, but I CAN tell you where it is. I don't know if there is more than one, but there is one across from Covel Commons, you'll see two vending machines and then a sign that says "CBC." Instead of BUYING a cable splitter (it's like a hub, but not for wireless) you can rent one there. You put it on a credit card, $40 (i think? around there), and they'll charge you if you don't return it, otherwise, it's completely free.

It closes kinda early, so make sure that you make it one of your first acts after you move-in.

definitely bring: power strip, internet cables, and a lamp.

if you get the loft, you will DEFINITELY need a lamp. it's like a cavern at night.
