Hi. I was recently accepted to UCLA and I'm trying to decide what my major should be. I applied Undeclared - Humanities but I decided that I'm definitely switching my major at Orientation. I've kinda narrowed my choices down to two, neuroscience and mechanical engineering. I have a few questions.

How is UCLA's neuroscience program? Is there a lot of competition? Is it hard?

Also, is it hard to switch into the College of Engineering? I understand I probably won't be able to at Orientation but I heard that if you keep your grades up you can switch in? Can anyone clarify that for me?

I know that Neuroscience and Mechanical Engineering are both really different, but for some reason those two seem to pop out for me.. The problem is I don't know much about them. If you guys can help me out, that'd be great! Thanks!

Anybody? Can someone at least tell me how early I can switch into the College of Engineering, if it’s possible at all?

It seems like you’re kind of all over the place. Humanities, Neuro, MechE…

I would say take a couple quarters to try out some different areas and figure out what you really like first. There’s no rush to declare your major yet.

There will be competition, especially in the science majors because of all the pre-health people. And engineering majors are tough in general.
Haha I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do for a while now but I think I’ve narrowed it down to those two for sure (I hope) … Yeah I guess I’ll wait until I take a few courses to find out what I really want to do. And thanks for that link about changing majors! That really helped!
