Do you guys thing it would be crazy to take 5 classes (22 units)? In cc, the most I took was 36 units, and an average of 24 units per quarter, but then again- I'm sure cc is easier than UCLA courses (upper div., etc). So is that crazy? How many units/classes do you guys plan on taking?

That’s very ambitious! I’m planning on taking 3 classes Fall quarter, maaaaaybe 4. I’m doing the TSP, so I’ll have my “transition” from semesters/JC to quarters/UCLA before the quarter begins.

i realllly wanted to do tsp, but unfortunately, i’ll be out of the country, which is kind of why i want to take 5- so that i can catch up

Don’t do it, it’s academic suicide. It’s hard to accurately describe the ‘jump’ from CC to 4-year until you really experience it for yourself, and diving head-first into your first semester thinking ‘oh, I will make the adjustments’ can be potentially catastrophic. Unless you have compelling reasons to graduate early, I don’t see why you are putting yourself at risk.

sidenote: most people on quarter systems take between 12-18 units.

Most of the classes at my CC (including some pre-reqs) were a joke. I spent about an average of 20 minutes of outside studying per week for each class. The only course I actually spent time on was Calc 1B. Since I’m doing biz econ I fully expect to spend more than a few hours per day on each class for outside reading. So I’m taking just 3 classes a quarter for fall.

@rawfulmao - nice. im biz econ too and just like you i felt calc II was my most difficult course(my only C at my JC -_-). i also just plan to take 3 classes my first qtr to get my feet wet.

another biz econ here. any of you taking a summer course? i WAS going to take econ 41 sess c, but i swapped today to econ 11.

5 is too much. If you want to catch up, do so later – take 5 classes during winter or spring, when you’ve adjusted.

Would four upper-division classes (16 units) be too much?

How do you get into TSP?

Yay at all the biz econ people :D

I’m really worried for some of those “weeder classes” like econ 41 (from what I’ve been hearing), they want to weed out people from biz econ.

I got in to TSP by applying super early in the morning for the few spots they had in the program.

@rawfulmao - i dont think econ 41 is one of the weeder classes, its econ 11 and econ 101. and to be quite honest i dont mind getting ‘weeded’ out of biz econ as im content with just a regular economics major.

yeah, i swapped to econ 11 because it’s a “weeder” so i can HOPEFULLY focus on it more since i’m only taking one course. i’ve taken stats before so econ 41 should be a breeeeze. i’ll most likely be taking econ 41, econ 101, and a mgmt class over fall to apply for the major after fall.

so back to the original thread topic… i’ll be taking 3 courses first quarter and add as i get comfortable.

Dang higherhopes 36 units is crazy! just wondering what classes did you take that quarter?

@perfect: yeah, i was pretty exhausted by the time it was over, but managed to get 4 A+'s, 4 A’s, and 1 A- (stupid teacher). i took:
-critical reading, writing, and thinking
-macroeconomics
-english literature in film
-eastern philosophy honors
-ethics honors
-business
-german 2
-us history 1900-present
-intro to cognitive science
