[] Personal Statement: aspiration essay showed my passion towards improvements; world essay showed my passion towards my intended major.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: ??
[] Intended Major: Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant): US
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Korean)
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: <$10,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): N/A
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: course loads
[] Weaknesses: SAT (esp.CR), major awards, plain extracurricular activities
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: course loads? weighted GPA?..??[/li][/ul]General Comments: I was told to write another supplementary essay (probably was borderline). Though not my #1 choice, I’m glad to be accepted and will seriously consider attending here  Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted!

I got in with an SAT score of 1870. I just wanted to mention my score because so many people on this website have discouraged me from applying by saying that my scores were too low. If you feel like you have a chance, apply. Plenty of other factors play in besides scores.

^ I agree with you 100%! I just got in UCLA with a 1590 SAT. :)

I also got accepted with an 1870 score into one of the most competitive majors.

I was accepted too, with an ACT score of 31 and UC gpa of 4.2
My ECs were ok and I had a really good essay (that I labored months over)
I’m really happy I got in but I’m out of state and apparently I’ll be paying anywhere from 40k-55k just to attend, which is a ridiculous amount to spend. :frowning: I’m super happy about getting in but at the same time, I feel so defeated because even now that I have a chance to go, I won’t be able to…
Does anyone know about the financial packages for out of state students? I heard that chances are I won’t be getting anything since it’s a public school and all but I’m wondering if there’s some more information on this

Decision: Accepted
Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2300 (800 M, 750 CR and WR)
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: Physics-700, Literature-710, Math II-800
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[] UC GPA: where is this?
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/57
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Calc AB (5), English Lang/Comp (5), US History (4), yet to take: Calc BC, US Government and English Lit/Comp
[] Senior Year Course Load: Weight Lifting, AP classes listed above, Philosophy/Apologetics, Student Leadership

[] Job/Work Experience: Math Tutoring, landscaping/yardwork
[] Volunteer/Community service: Worship bands listed above, NHS service projects, hundreds of hours serving at churches
[] Personal Statement: talked about the rigor of a small private Christian high school and the guidance and care received there for #1, and my passion for combining science and art (especially in music) for #2
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: yes indeed
[] Intended Major: Computer Science and Engineering
[] State: AZ
[] School Type: Small Private Christian (high school~300 students)
[] Ethnicity: Half Hispanic, half white
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: ~$80,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): I’m a Hispanic NMF, and I’m pretty good at expressing my passion for learning and creativity
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Golden academics and test scores
[] Weaknesses: I feel like my community service is lacking
[] Why you think you were accepted: For my hooks and strengths above
[/ul]General Comments: Stoked. I’d stay in the Engineering school but not sure if I want to do Computer Science yet. Also, received the Achievement Scholarship ($10,000/year) I’m honored…and yet I still don’t think I’ll be able to afford it :(

I was rejected tonight by UCLA, OOS from Texas with:
2220 SAT (750 Math, 750 CR, 720 Writing)
33 ACT
4.0 unweighted GPA
Rank: 25 of 563
Decent EC’s (Some might consider them poor though  )
Major: Computer Engineering
FAFSA said I can only afford $8000 out of pocket per year
Rigorous Senior course-load
White Male

Honestly I don’t know why I was rejected other than maybe they didn’t like my EC’s or Essay. Unless they take financial status and ability to pay into account then that would have hurt me as well, but I was under the impression they did not.

Denied Film School :(

international student in asia

Rank: N/A

I really thought i had a chance :(

Decision: Accepted

I’ve wanted to do this for so long!

Objective:[ul]

[] Job/Work Experience: Apple (3 weeks in India during the summer)
[] Volunteer/Community service: Some average bs library stuff and some tutoring
[] Personal Statement: Holy . I can not emphasize this enough. I really think essays are underrated. First one was about how my obsession with the news has catalyzed my desire to shape the world in a meaningful way. The second one was a funny anecdote about my job designing my class’s homecoming float and how it is symbolic of my leadership style.
[/ul]Other[ list]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: I think so. Def not receiving any.
[] Intended Major: Econ/Polysci
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public, I guess competitive?
[] Ethnicity: I wear that Brown Crown (South Asian)
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: enough
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): I go hard in da paint
[/list]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths:EC’s, Essays
[] Weaknesses:GPA
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Can never say so for certain. I think my essays showed passion and careful consideration. Maybe debate and student government trumped the GPA? My UW GPA is pretty low for UCLA.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I’m so excited. Very likely will be a bruin next year, unless I get into Stanford (lol) or get off the waitlist at UChi. Possibly will consider Berkeley (if I get in!), CMC or Northwestern though. I hate to sound pedantic, but for kids still applying, I urge you to take a deep breathe because if you’re looking at this site, you’re probably stressing too much. I know I was. Do what you love and everything will fall into place. I regret not spending more time with debate, which I truly loved. Looking back, I was too much of try-hard. Don’t be that guy. Whether it’s weed or reading a book, stop adding to your resume or studying, and do something fun.

Congrats to those who made it! I sympathize to those who are waitlisted (I’m on UChi and WUSTL’s) it sucks. To those rejected: Fight on! Get the reference  ?

PS: I don’t know if this worked, but when I toured UCLA, the guide talked about the acronym L.I.D. (Leadership, Improvement, dedication) which UCLA apparently emphasizes in admissions. Because of this, I made one of my essays about leadership. Something some people may want to consider…

[] Weaknesses: SAT scores
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/li][/ul]General Comments: UCLA is an awesome school. I didn’t think I had much of a shot going into it, and getting accepted is a surreal feeling. If you didn’t get in, then it’s no biggie, college admissions are REALLY inconsistent (especially with a school that received over 100k applicants), and you’ll definitely get in elsewhere. And to all that got in, congratulations, and maybe (depending on where else I get in) I’ll see you next year!
