UCLA open house invitation

I haven't been told I'm accepted yet, but today I got a letter from UCLA arts inviting me and my family to the open house on Friday, April 17th. it says it's for freshman and transfer applicants recommended for admission by their departments to visit UCLA and learn more about their intended major.

I called the guy in charge, and he told me that legally he cannot say whether or not I got in because he is not in admissions, but if you get a letter then it is good news.

Do you think this means I'm going to be accepted? ahhh!

That's definitely a good sign if any. Best "theory" I have read thus far. What are your stats/intended major?

studio art - transfer from el camino

GPA: 3.73
75 units to transfer after this semester.
deans list, part time deans list, $2000 Riddle scholarship for fine art
I think what helps my application a lot is the fact that I barely started ECC last summer in 2008, and finished 75 units in a year.

my portfolio had a pretty unique theme to it too.

That's really good to hear. I'm shooting for 72-75 units by the end of my spring semester as a sophomore next year.

O__O! You're so lucky! That's great news for you! [: I'm sure others will be thankful that you have spilled the news. xD. Best of luck!! Ahh. I wish Cal would do something like that, lolol.

With all the speculation on early signs of acceptance that go around on this board that might be the first reasonable one. Grats I guess, hope they aren't just building up your hopes because now it would suck even more if you don't get in.

^^^ ha, definitely.

When I RSVP'd there was a section after I picked my lunch choice that said

T-SHIRTS:
S
M
L
XL
XXL

All admitted students will receive a complimentary UCLA Arts t-shirt; please select your size. Additional t-shirts will be available at the event for $10 each.

Isn't the Arts department seperate from others, it's with other majors such as Theatre and Film which require adittional information such as examples of projects, portfolios, etc. so this really wouldn't apply to other majors.

^^^ yeah, this thread would only matter to them I suppose.

actually, every department is going to do something similar. Just read on the site that there are 13 set days for invited/referred students from many majors.

well it should be a good sign, what's the point of sending an invitation and planning all this if they don't have something planned

Can I go w/out invitation? man... I just live around there (actually 45min drive)!

^^^ No, I don't think so... They mail you a username and password to some website, and you have to RSVP and tell how many guests you're taking because they are giving us lunch, tours, and the students get t-shirts. It's strictly for the arts and architecture division, and I think this means I was accepted even though I haven't gotten an official notice. Did you apply for one of these majors?

Do you have any examples of work you submitted in your portfolio?

Sure, but I don't want to show them until I get my DEFINITE letter of acceptance. But basically, it consisted entirely of black and white photos that I made in my CC darkroom and were all similar with a technique I made up that consisted of a photo actually made up of two photos placed side by side that felt connected. Hard to explain, but I'll definite show it when I find out my status because I know how frustrated I was with the lack of examples there are of art portfolios.

^^^* DEFINITE letter of acceptance/denial.

(wishful thinking, haha)

no, I am not! Do u have to be art or architecture major to attend this open house?

^^^ For this specific open house, yes. But there's open houses for every major, so you might want to look into a public open house for whatever you're interested in. The specific one I am talking about is invite only though.

From what I heard from last year, getting an invite is a VERY GOOD sign. My buddy received one (econ) last year and he was accepted. His friends the previous year received one and were also accepted.

When did your friend receive the invite for econ last year?
