That is a big factor for me, too. I too like a mellower pace of life which is why I also applied to UCSC–seems like a cool nature-ish campus, but UCLA was my first pick and the school I wanted to go to when I returned to school in 2008 (Yep! Three years). I suffer from a bit of social anxiety. I researched the counseling center for UCLA and it seems they have lots of support as in counselors and groups and whatnot.

I too got into both Cal and UCLA, but, as I said, I leaning heavily towards UCLA. The proximity to San Diego (which is where I’m from) is pretty good too since I can hop on my bike and ride down if need be or just for the weekend.

Congrats on your acceptances! Having the opportunity to choose between Cal and UCLA is amazing.

I think this is why a lot of people are having a tough time choosing between UCLA/Cal and UCD, because of both the more mellow environment and less competitive academic environment.

I was totally 100% set on going to Cal Poly, was even going to move in with my boyfriend in SLO in July and then I started thinking about the prestige factor. Sometimes i’m still completely lost on where I want to go, it’s such a hard decision!

Yeah, a move to LA from SD sounds much more realistic than to Berkeley. You still know that you got IN to berkeley, which is an accomplishment in itself. Are you going to be living on campus when you transfer?

Average GPA at UCI and UCSD hover around ~3.0 so that’s not really saying much. Btw some grad schools grade on a bell curve… gl getting 50 a’s and b’s on that one.

Indeed. Also, I’m thinking about on campus, but being 26, I don’t know if I am up to rooming with three 21 year olds. I also prefer to cook for myself, so I’m not bound by the food plan. The only thing I really worry about is networking with people because my nature is to not network since I have a low desire to do so.
