where should i go? i cant decide. please tell me some pro/cons for each school. I plan on going to law school after.. thanks

I got into both UCLA and UCB. I chose UCLA for my undergrad education. If I were you I’d choose UCLA over UCB that way you can build up your gpa and get yourself prepared for the grad school at BERKELEY. At least that’s what I’m going to do. Good luck!!

DKH, I’m a Sociology major and plan on going to law school after as well. I am going to UCLA so if you plan on going it looks like we will be about in the same boat.

ucla … cal… ahhahahaha my head hurts!

which school is ranked better for Sociology?

DKH, YOU CAN’T LOSE. Don’t agonize over this decision. They are two of the most excellent schools in the entire WORLD. Either way, you win. I got into both Cal and UCLA, but Cal has always been my dream school, so I’m going to UC BERKELEY! Don’t stress it. You are quite accomplished to get into both schools as they are each excellent.

Neither, its a BS major, do yourself a favor and re-apply next year as something useful

cal is ranked higher for sociology overall but ucla has beats cal in some sub-areas of soc.
sociology is a great major, not bs :)

i m torn also man… math/econ @ ucla and econ @ cal spring however though… dunno what to choose

rushdelts… why don’t you take your noob self and get out of here.

Hey DKH. we’re in the same position. i got accepted as a sociology major into both schools. it’s a tough decision but like people are saying, you can’t go wrong with either school. Right now I’m 75/25 ucla but i need some more time to think about it. i still need to visit the schools again this month to get a better feel. Are you 50/50?

Easy answer. Visit both, look up course listings and faculty for each department, and perhaps class size. Smaller class size usually means it is less difficult to get LOR’s, which are necessary for law school.

I was leaning towards la more but berkeley’s prestige is very tempting… My parents are telling me to “challenge myself” and go to cal but i personally would love to live in la. Im having second thoughts about going to ucla.

DKH… same boat HERE!! … i thought such admits were supposed to make u happy now i gotta choose… nice cool crowd at LA or prestige of CAL…
either way i gotta lose one… tht ll make me sad.

DKH…Ed gave you some really good advise… unfortunately I am more biased than he is (he is much more neutral than I am)… I am a Soc major at Cal & finishing up next semester. I am also planning on going to law school. There are some amazing soc professors here that are not only published but are experts in their field (google: Micheal Burawoy & Howard Rheingold) 2 amazing people that I have had the pleasure of learning from. If you manage to get letters of rec from professors like these it will go a long way for law school applications. I’m sure that UCLA has classes that are incredible as well, but I just want to share my experience w/ you…either way good luck on your academic journey

btw…if you do decide to go to Cal…pm me later & I will let you know all the great prof/classes as well as the ones to watch out for

I think Cal has an amazing soc program… at least for their graduate they do.

am i pre-sociology if i go to berkeley just like in ucla?
