UCLA or NYU(major in psychology)

I got admitted by UCLA and NYU. I love these two schools, so it is very hard for me to choose between them.

Can anyone weigh in on these schools for me? On academics(psychology), housing, internship opportunities and activities...

Thanks.

Academically, UCLA tends to be much higher ranked in Psychology than NYU. It’s one of the most popular majors here. Typically for departments rankings are by grad schools but I actually found one on undergraduate psychology programs.

While I know that you are considering it for undergraduate so grad school/program rankings may not matter as much to you, I think they indicate here that UCLA has a much stronger focus and diversity of subjects within this field compared to NYU. You’ll have access to many resources at UCLA. I don’t know enough to compare the two fully and confidently state that UCLA has stronger academics within this subject than NYU but I will state that within UCLA itself, Psychology is a pretty good major. It might be a little more competitive though, especially in the classes that overlap with pre-med Psychobiology students.

As for housing you may have heard oh UCLA’s dorms are crowded, they tend to be crammed three to a room - while yes, maybe our dorms aren’t as spacious as some other universities may be, they’re not all that bad. For the smallest rooms, in halls, you get used to it and many find them to be great social bases where they make some of their best friends for the next four years. If privacy is something you really value then you can try to get a double or single, or move into a bigger “plaza” room that has a shared/private bathroom, or even to the suites.

I don’t know much about internship opportunities that relate to psychology majors so I can’t say much about it, at least if you plan to go into research. As for activities, UCLA has PLENTY of them! Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming but I’d rather have too many choices than too few, it just depends on what you’re looking for.

While both NY and LA have a lot to do around the area, many people come to LA specifically because they’re in love with the southern California weather (and having a beach nearby). It’s also up to you whether you like the more independent feel of a campus like NYU or if you want to go for the more traditional collegiate campus like UCLA.

Hi, Jay. Thanks for your reply.
I think that UCLA is stronger in academics, this really matters. Also, I want to know that how can I get scholarship in UCLA (the requirement for GPA, activities…etc), since the tuition for out-state sudents is much higher…$$$$$$
