what's prestige going to get you, if you're miserable?

I would rather be miserable for four short years and enjoy a lifetime of prestige than enjoy four years and then regret not choosing a more prestigious school.

i have a friend who just chose ucla over stanford. it isn't as obvious as some people make it seem. She fit better at UCLA. So she is going there. I am glad she went with her heart.

how could you be miserable at stanford? if there was ONE school i'd go to in lieu of ucla it might be stanford. i didnt apply since i didnt think i had a chance but if i magically had an offer

I wonder how the grade competition is at Stanford if everyone is supposed to be "brilliant"... What if you're accepted (barely) and you're "average" ? I bet you'd suffer.. but whatever lol

You and the other person who created the thread "UCLA Honors or Harvard? Please help!" are both crazy. You are both very funny though I must admit.

I attended a Stanford info session and one of the alumni spoke how she was at the top of her high school and just a regular student at Stanford. She almost sounded as if it was extremely challenging those four years at Stanford. Read into it as you please. I guess it depends on what you want. Is this a true posting as to choosing between UCLA and Stanford?

Are you kidding!!!!?? Go to Stanford!
Unless you really really like UCLA or something, I think Stanford pretty much has UCLA beat in all departments.

If you are politically minded, specific to the left, UCLA would be a better fit. Stanford likes Republican politicians. They got Herbert Hoover, Condoleesa Rice, Rumsfield, and others.

ucla definitely leans to the left but there are plenty of republicans. i actually find ucla a pretty conservative school, (and i'm more on the conservative side) but then again i come from a city that voted 80% for kerry so puts it in context. in terms of the rest of the USA ucla is liberal. not berkeley or liberal arts lefty, but solidly so.

LA is not as liberal as Cal, but given that it is Los Angeles county, it is fairly liberal. There are plenty of republicans at Cal, yet Cal is pretty left; same logic should work for UCLA.

if money is really an issue for you, you should have no worries at Stanford. i've heard many times that if you parents' annual income is <$60,000, you'll be covered there.
