UCLA or UC Berkeley for Applied Math

Got admitted into both, but I am missing one class (math 55) for berkeley, and I have all the lower division for ucla. Berkeley is offering a little more money, about $2k more, but my sibling is going to be transferring there too for a different major in L&S, and I dont want to be mistaken for him or see him at all.
Berkeley’s College of L&S requires students to take 13 units/semester, so Im going to be taking 4 classes a semester, which seems crazy and overwhelming. I would only need to take 3/quarter at UCLA. Math is one of the lowest GPAs at berkeley, which is why Im hesitant to go there. Also, it seems like Berkeley would be crazy competetive and I would be surrounded by math prodigies. I have to decide soon, so any advice will be much appreciated.

It sounds like you are seeking reasons to not go to Berkeley. If I were you, I would pay the extra $2k to attend UCLA. Nothing trumps happiness, and it seems like UCLA would provide you with an environment more conducive to your success.

However, do keep in mind both schools are very competitive. If you think UCLA is going to be the easier path, you’d be mistaken. In addition, yes, you’d be taking three classes per quarter as opposed to four per semester, but the quarter system is far more condensed.

My opinion is that UCLA better suits you. Good luck!

At the end of the day, you are the one who’s attending college. So choose the school you feel most confident and want to go to. And if you try hard, you shouldn’t worry about other prodigies.
Anyways I’m also a transfer student for the Fall of 2016, and already SIR-ed UCLA  Anyways congrats on your admission, and good luck!
