So I got into UCLA for Anthropology B.S and i plan on taking the pre-reqs for medical school ect. But, is it really worth it to go to UCLA for the name or should i just go to UCI and save my parents some money? I've read that where I get my undergrad degree doesn't matter if i'm pursuing grad school but tell me what you think. Do both schools have the same amount of internship opportunities ect?
P.S: I'm a transfer student from a CCC

What kind of monetary difference are you talking? I don’t necessarily think you will learn more at UCLA, but the prestige could be nice.

well i mean i can commute to uci cause i live like 20 min away but ucla i’m going to have to pay for an apartment ect

I’m on the same boat as you! I can’t decide either.

Both school’s pre-meds are not easy (all UCs are not easy, unless you are very good in testing and studying). If money is not an issue i would go to UCLA. Both schools claim they have good pre-med program, but few students get into med school, easily being weed out from introductory courses. Well, being a pre-med and survive is not easy.

Since you just transfer from CCC, i assume you have 2 or 3 years to go (undergraduate), i advise you study really hard, get high GPA, then plan for the next.

I had to make the same decision last year (but for a different major). I choose UCI. If I didn’t commute I would have to take loans (I don’t want the debt from undergrad and med school loans), and I would have a better chance of getting a higher GPA.

yea i would suggest UCI, since it is within your area, and it has a strong medical course, almost as comparable as UCLA. hope you make the best decision!

thank you guys!!! i’m leaning towards uci definitely

UCI and UCLA are both considerably great universities for med school

Since you went to a CC first and are studying Anthro, then does that mean that you already have your pre-med pre-reqs complete/near-complete from your CC?

If you’ve taken many of your pre-reqs, then I don’t think it matters much, since now you’re mostly only taking Anthro classes after you transfer.

What is your BCMP GPA?

What pre-reqs have you taken at your CC and what grades did you get?
