I think I am leaning towards UCSD because my main goal is to get accepted into a prestigious graduate school and UCSD might be better than UCLA for it. However I have nothing to base this on.

UCSD has admitted me into John Muir as a Human Biology major
UCLA admitted me as a Biology major

I've been told I might get a better GPA by going to UCSD over UCLA, but at the same time I also hear that UCSD is just as competitive.

It doesn’t matter which school you go to, it doesn’t matter your major! Med-schools like well rounded applicants. The main point is to meet pre-med requirements, do volunteer and research work, get a high gpa and get a high MCAT score. Just about any science major with a pre-med emphasis will be competetive. If you do those things, getting accepted to med school from either UCLA or UCSD will be about equal. Only about 2% of the students who start out pre-med end up as doctors so the point is, go to the school you like the best and that you will be the happiest at. You can’t go wrong with either school.

Thanks for your reply It’s comforting to know that the acceptance is about the same.

Would it be easier to do research at UCSD over UCLA?

You really should just go to the school where you think you will be happiest overall. Each school provides the opportunity to achieve whatever you are capable of. So pick the one that you feel is the best fit. Then take full advantage of what that school has to offer.

Hi to both of you. I am confused because I have been excepted at both PLNU and UCSD. I realize that UCSD is a better ranked school, but I like the home town feel of PLNU. I also want to go off to be a med student, and my parents think that UCSD would better prepare me. What do you think?

UCSD would be much better preparation.
