I'm majoring in Bio for both schools. Although I am majoring in Biology, I definitely plan on studying Ichthyology/Marine Biology in Grad school. I'm not sure which one would be better suited for my overall future because I'm thinking that UCSD would help me build better connections with Scripps while UCLA seems like it would be a better bridge into grad school. Any light?

Bio’s great at UCSD and it would do just as fine of a job as UCLA at getting you in the top graduate programs, all else being equal.

Scripps is a wonderful school, but it is not the only place with grad programs in Marine Biology. You may end up deciding to go elsewhere, and there is even a chance they may not accept you. So worrying now about building bridges to Scripps is misplaced focus, IMHO.

Pick the school that is a better fit for you. Academically they are a tossup; as 2 campuses in the same system they are going to resemble each other pretty closely. Look at location, type of students, where students live, etc. If you do well, take part in research, get to know some profs so that you get strong and personalized recs, you will be a strong candidate for grad school.

They’re pretty similar although I’d say UCLA has a bit more prestige.
