I found a private parking space at that address which charges 100 bucks per month.

Have you checked it out in person?
It sounds like a pretty good deal, I might look into it further, I really want to take my car to UCLA

The last time I went there last year, I passed by it.

Its a 12 minute walk from the dorms or a 5 minute shuttle ride from the dorms. What I will do is bring my bike over and bike back and forth between the parking garage and the dorms.

Could we use financial aid for this?

sure, if you have remaining money from your Fin aid. It is not school parking, it is across the street from the UCLA Hospital.

Do you guys want to bring cars to UCLA? I am considering it.

I want to bring my car, but I don’t know if I’d even use it that much. Don’t know how I feel about just leaving my car in a lot.

Well, another option for me is not bring a car fall quarter to see how it goes and then, bring a car winter quarter.

if ever they put me in a dorm, I’d definitely get one of these.

isn’t that more expensive than on campus parking?
or are you resorting to this because you won’t get on campus parking because you’re dorming?

campus parking is very exclusive because so many people come to ucla from so many different places (i know a girl who commutes to UCLA from Van Nuys) so people in dorms are probably automatically rejected for it.

It would probably be really smart for UCLA to invest at least building a few parking structures on campus. Even if they charged like $80 per month for them, i’m sure they’d make back their money really quick.

Seriously, they should. It’s ridiculous how hard it is to get parking living on campus. Maybe we should protest or start a petition.

it’s hilarious. The businesses wonder why people aren’t going there and its like 'because um…no one wants to pay like $7 just to park" (if you think i’m exagerating, my friend tried parking in the gushi/fat sals parking lot and this is how much it cost) sure the people who make a lot of money pay it, but most people don’t, and as a result, they get less business.

If they even just had one giant parking structure where anyone from anywhere would park (i’m talking about tourists, people from bev. hills, other parts of the city like glendale, etc. could visit, they’d have a much smaller problem imo.

hahahah… where, exactly? and even if they could, the added influx of that many cars would strongly affect the campus aesthetic / lifestyle (in what i, at least, think would be a pretty negative way).

sorry to say it, but this sounds really naive. even if you get that pay-spot by the hospital, once you figure out that you’ll be able to find closer parking on the street by driving around a few blocks (like everyone else), you’ll resort to that over the walk / bike ride in a second. take my word for it.

you’ve got this all wrong, brother…

1) i’ve lived here two years and never once heard that business were ‘complaining’. westwood village is CONSTANTLY packed with people – really, i mean packed… the restaurants (most of them) do just fine and the shops always seem have window shoppers, at the very least.

2) parking is expensive precisely BECAUSE of the businesses… the idea is to keep the limited parking really expensive so that people will come into the village for a limited amount of time - just to do their shopping - and then leave to make room for other people wanting to do the same thing. if parking were cheaper, people would hang around longer while not spending money thus blocking would-be paying customers from coming in.

3) there’s a clutch city parking garage on Broxton… 2 hours free before 6, $3 flat rate after 6, $6 daily max.

Where is the closer parking on campus which is not a UCLA parking garage? Is it by frat row or on hilgard ave?

on veteran, or in other parts of north village. street cleaning / 2 hour parking signs are a *****, though.

I am talking about free parking spaces in that area with no signs that say " street cleaning or two hour parking." Because I may use my car only about 4 times a week.

What is the best places to park on north village ? and I understand that some students buy parking off other students who live in the apartments.

I am living on campus in the first year

if you’re living on campus, don’t bring your car. at least, not until after fall quarter. you won’t need it, nor will you feel like you need it.
the end.

My name is Sirinya and I’m writing officially from UCLA Transportation.

Here’s the deal with parking:

During the academic year, if you are a UCLA student living in the North Westwood Village or other areas within zip code 90024, you can apply for a UCLA Residence Hall Student Permit. This means you will likely get parked in Lot 11 or Sunset Village. The catch: You must show proof of an off-campus job to obtain the permit and reapply each quarter.

Don’t have a job?
Without proof of off-campus employment, 90024 students must appeal for parking, unless they are a Regent Scholar. This webpage explains what “appeal” means: [Student Parking Appeals (1003300)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1003300).

Cost
The current cost of this permit is $246 for fall quarter 2011 and $258 each for winter and spring quarter 2012.

How can I apply?
You can apply online for fall quarter parking between June 1st and July 22nd at http://parking.ucla.edu.

Speaking for myself, PS I agree primarily with pinkerfloyd, in that it’s very likely that for the most part, you’ll porbably find out having a car is more trouble than it is worth.

I do, however, disagree with the poster regarding the volume of Westwood Village’s foot traffic. There used to be a LOT more people, so many that entire streets got shut down to accommodate them. But that’s a discussion for another thread.
