ucla parking

Hey guys. I'm applying to UCLA and USC and I was just wondering how the parking was in each college. I plan on having a car in whichever college I go to and I really hope parking won't be too big of a pain. Thanks.

i think UCLA has shuttle buses. so parking isn't really much of an issue.

and if you park near usc be careful. you might get carjacked at gunpoint.

I don't know any specifics about ucla, but I can tell you a little bit about parking at USC. There is one very large parking structure for students that is about 2 or 3 blocks from campus, and I believe another is being built, and safe for your car. Our campus is pretty small, so you definitely don't need to drive anytime to get around campus (you can get corner to corner in 15 minutes). This structure is good if you just want to store the car (minus going places unrelated to class). If you live off campus, there are multiple parking garages throughout campus, and you can park there if you drive to class. If you don't get on-campus housing, there are trams that can take you to campus, or you can call campus cruiser, which are the student-driven, free cars that will take you anywhere within 3 miles of campus.

Parking at/around UCLA is a pain. I strongly recommend not having a car. Virtually every student will ignore that recommendation. Parking on-campus is friggin' expensive. Parking off-campus nearby is close to impossible. Unless you live a few miles away and not on an easy bus route--and UCLA has a jillion bus routes that terminate there, including Santa Monica, Culver City, and LA buses--having a car can not be defended in economic terms.

remember this - you will not get parking at UCLA
lol

Umm...you can get parking at UCLA but to get it easily you have to live a certain distance away. If you're living close to campus, forget it...except that I think there are a few spaces available on a lottery basis...but that may have been a few years ago.

i wouldnt worry about parking as a 1st-year cuz 1) you absolutely dont need it and 2) its highly unlikely that youll even get a parking permit, which costs a lot in the first place. make friends with an upperclassman who can drive u around if needed. find out about bus lines that have routes to very nearby attractions.
