UCLA Pillow Talk

I didn't know what to call this thread, but I wanted to talk about bed "things" we are going to need at UCLA (or any other UC). I'm bringing this up because I went shopping today and I got an "oversized twin" comforter and when I took it out of the package to see how big it was, it looks like a cape on me (and I'm not that big of a person). My mom was laughing her a$$ off at me (thanks ma'). I know the sheets have to fit exactly (i.e. twin XL) but will a bigger comforter fit alright? I sleep in a queen size right now, so maybe somebody who's using a twin can give me some advice.

good thread, I sleep on a queen too this should be good info

What makes you think a comforter needs to fit? I sleep on a full and have a duvet covered, california-king sized down comforter. My bed is the perfect size for two people, but “visitors” can’t hog my comforter.

Btw, I think all dorms say that you need oversize or extra-long twin sheets, but you can actually use regular twin sheets. Before I moved into the dorms, I bought a set and used that for most of the year. However, I found out my twin sheets from back home were perfectly fine.

The only thing you’ll need XL twin sized is the fitted sheet. Go wild with your comforter. Hahahah. Does anyone know if the walmart ones are any good? I don’t want them bunching up after one wash.

Wow jumping the gun! I guess I better start thinking of this stuff too… I have the Transfer Summer Program starting in late July. :P)

I wouldn’t buy sheets from Walmart but you can find great sheets at Bed Bath & Beyond… You’ll be in a twin bed (which will be a first for most of us… ) and will want your bed to be as comfortable as possible. Bed Bath & Beyond always sends coupons in the mail & they have this Beechwood really soft flannel sheet that isn’t too expensive and is very cozy!

A queen would even be fine for a twin bed. You can double the blanket perfectly for a twin size bed.

Sleeping bag. Done.

@shawneee I don’t know why but people keep telling me to get the dorm kits from there, we don’t have walmarts in this city so I can’t check if they’re any good! BB&B sounds legit though.

I bought two sets of 360 thread count egyptian cotton sheets (flat and fitted) from BB&B for $30. They’re pretty nice. REALLY soft stuff. Also, I sized up on the comforter and got a queen.

Is anyone thinking of buying a new mattress for their room? I was thinking about getting one of those memory foam things to put on top of the mattress. Is the standard mattress they give you any good/comfortable? I guess I’ll find out.

@shawnee
It’s not really jumping the gun for me. I move in on Sunday and start class on Monday! I’m super stoked! =)

I bought a twin XL sheet set and the top sheet is ridiculously long, I doubt that XL sheets are necessary. I also brought my queen comforter AND my sister’s old twin comforter and both work fine. More comforter = more comfort.

Uccasualty- Hopefully I find a place in Westwood on Veteran… I’m checking the place out this weekend… private room & private bath… If this doesn’t work out i’ll be living on campus & for sure i’ll be bringing my feather duvet, new sheets and not a new mattress but probably a memory foam type pad… Wow ! That’s exciting… I"ll be on campus on July 28 for tSP. I’m pretty excited but also really appreciating having this vacation.

sunnyseas- tell me about the move in kit? what is in it & how much?

I sort of want to buy a big quilt along with a comforter. But I guess that might be stupid since LA is always pretty sunny. I just really like quilts…wah wah

I got a ‘college set’ thingymajig from Target for about $50 (this was a few years ago, but they have it every year around July and August). It came with bed sheets, pillow covers, a comforter set, and eight towels. Awesome quality. Great deal.

Their mattresses are alright. They’re not going to provide top-of-the-line stuff, but I’m sure you know that. I’m bringing a foam mattress pad. It really makes all the difference.

It’d be bulky but I’d sorta like to take my Full Sleep Number bed and matress with me. I have a really nice soft n.a.p. blanket from Brookstone (aka: The Store Full Of Useless Cr@p That Nobody Needs Until They Realize it Exists – Then They Must Have It)

…This is all assuming I even get in to UCLA next Fall rotflmao

^ Kind of like Pier 1 Imports and The Container Store? Hahahah

^Pretty much… or Cost Plus World Market?

…But they have Pocky… and those awesome hard pretzel bites filled with dried peanut butter that are so darn addictive!

…Or the bane of everyone everywhere… Yankee f****** Candle lmao
