I am transferring from a CCC and my major is political science. My first choice is UCLA. My current GPA is 3.7, but since some classes are not UC transferable my GPA will go down to 3.66. This semester I am taking some major classes and hope to get all A's which will boost my GPA to 3.72. The last 2 semesters and short sections i have only gotten A's. Here is my question. When I first entered CCC I took an ESL class (141) and end up with C. The fallowing semester I took the next sequential class ESL 151 and got A. I have taken all possible English classes and as I mentioned have A's. ESl 141 class is UC transferable but it is not a part of IGETC. What you think about my situation. WIll they count the ESL class or not??
I thank you in advance.

i would say you shouldn't apply cause i want to go to ucla too and you will take my spot. just joking
very good gpa. i think your in with that gpa.

Are you in your CC's honor program because that would help you out alot, and have you completed all of your major pre reqs? Assuming that you have done all those things with a 3.6 GPA I would say you have a greater then %50 chance at admission good luck :-)

i think it's a good chance as well. Just make sure u take all the prereqs u need.

I deeply appreciate your responds ..Please continue in the same manner..Does someone know how 1 class taken as Credit/No Credit can influence your chances???

It really isn't going to change things one way or the other. You really think they're going to spend that much time poring over your file?

What is the next major factor after your GPA they pay attention to?? IS it the personal statement or what??

Umm...I think you should rewrite that last sentence, and render it readable to the average English speaker.

After GPA, I think the most important thing will be your essay.

I guess you are so right... It is completely mess.. I just wanted to ask if mentioning a student worker sholarship that I receive here at GCC can improve my chances???
Thanks>>>

Umm... no offense, but is English your native language? If it's not, all is forgiven.

Mentioning it can't hurt, but really, you think they're going to read it in detail anyway?

Let me tell you this.. English is not my native language, not even second or third.. It is my forth language.....but in my next postings I'll try to be more accurate.. Thanks

As an alternative to UC I also consider USC. I heard that IGETC does not work you USC. Does someone know what are the criterias for USC.

Okay, now that I know that you're not a native, I'm not concerned. If it's any consolation, you write better than a lot of natives...

IGETC will not get you into USC. You'll have to look into whatever particular agreement they have with your school.

DO they really pay attention to your out-of-school activities.. like jobs, student organizations???

Who's they? UCLA or USC?

UCLA, not a whole lot.

ok i'm at 3.4gpa and will complete the honors this fall. Also, i'm taking 21 units and with all A's, i'll have a 3.6-7. my choices are UCLA and USC. the majors i'm thinking of applying under are bio or biochem.

will the majors have better chances of acceptance? should i apply this fall?

Same question. I'm at 3.55.. will finish my major req. and complete IGETC... also will be able to graduate with honor and IGETC certified this fall. Taking 5 classes this semester... hoping to bring my GPA up to a 3.7.. I'm shooting for UCLA nd USC as well and my major is Econ... Now, someone told me that I practically need a 4.0 to be considered and still not a whole lot chance... IS that true??? Because I'm sort of freaked out by that 4.0!!! Thanks.

That person is a big fat idiot. No.

That said, when applying, make sure that your second major is in no way impacted! My girlfriend applied as bio and anthro (B.S.) and got in under Anthro.

UCLAri, when applying as a double major, you can be admitted as one? I don't understand how it worked with your girlfriend.

I'm not sure whether I should apply as a biology or biochem major this fall. There has to be a higher chance of acceptance with one major.

That's what I meant, sorry. You get to choose one major and an alternative. As I meant to say, but failed to do, make sure your alternative major is not impacted.
