UCLA Political Science CC Transfers Fall 2018

Hi everyone! I don’t believe this was created yet so I thought I would post a discussion for all of us, political science majors, applying to UCLA for Fall 2018! Post your stats down below and let’s help each other out!

My Stats:

CCC student from Los Angeles Pierce College
Major: Political Science
GPA: 4.0, Dean’s list for fall 2016 and spring 2017 (possibly president’s list at the end of fall 2017)
Major Prep/GPA: Done, 4.0
IGETC: Done by Spring 2018

Schools Applying: CSUN (Political Science), UCLA (Political Science)

EC:
-14 hours a week doing community service at a residential home for the elderly
-babysitter and tutor 5 days out of the week
-part of my school’s circle K club
-dancer
-working part time

Personal insight questions: my brother (who went to UCLA and now is at one of the world’s top medical schools) went over it, as well as three other good friends who got into UCLA and other great schools. I would say they are about a 8.5/10, feeling pretty confident about them after revising them about 5 different times each question.

Please post your stats and create discussions! Go bruins!

Hopefully this post will get going soon so I’ll post my stats here too

Started at SDSU, but left to complete credits at JC Cypress College
Major: Political Science
GPA 3.91 Overall. SDSU GPA 3.81 with 16 credits. Cypress College GPA 4.00
Major Prep + IGETC: Done spring 2018
Total credits: around 70 when I transfer

Applied to: UCB UCLA UCSD UCSB UCI CSULB

EC:
500 hours of volunteer work as farmhand on local farm up until last year
Radio show DJ/ host at award winning SDSU college radio
Unfortunately no clubs
Paid internship at a law firm as a legal assistant (hoping this will be huge as I noted I plan to study law)

Essays: 6.5/10 realistically speaking

White male, middle income family

PS: I will get a B in a 5 unit this semester (damn intro to biology lol) and that will bring my overall GPA down to 3.83

You both sound like pretty strong candidates. I’m also a 4.0 poli sci major with pretty solid EC’s. I just wish they would release last year’s transfer stats so that I can get a better idea of how much more difficult the major is now as opposed to 2016. Do either of you have an idea of what kind of GPA one can expect after transferring, since law schools seem to care a lot about that stuff.

edit to my orig. post. I ended up with an A in what was really supposed to be a B (thank god). So my overall is now 3.94.

Hi guys! Here are my stats. I started at an OOS 4 year university, hated it, and then transferred to a CCC where I’ll be applying to transfer from. Really excited that we have a thread set up for poli sci transfer applicants, can’t wait for April! Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.86
Major GPA: 3.9
IGETC: Will be completed by the end of spring 2018, one science class left to go
Pre-reqs: Missing one- couldn’t fit Comparative Politics into my class schedule at any point unfortunately- only 1 section of Comparative Politics is offered at my school every semester and if I’d taken it either semester I’d be missing other pre-reqs/IGETC courses.
Extracurriculars: don’t want to get too into details with these as they could make me potentially identifiable but I did a lot at my first school and I’ll be continuing with my involvement wherever I end up. I’ve held two internships related to my field, one of which I’ve been working in since the summer. Some volunteer hours but not a ton unfortunately.
Essays: 7/10- definitely not my best but I think I managed to share my story and experiences in a fairly compelling way.

I also applied to UCSD, UC Berkeley, and UC Irvine (TAG). UCLA is my third choice and because of my missing prereq I’m not very hopeful I’ll be admitted. I still figured I’d apply to see what would happen, though.

Hey there! Wondering how to update the UCs with Fall of Sophomore year grades. Can’t see a way to do this when I log on to the UC application.

@crockmom The TAU was added to the UC admission portal today! Log into your UC application and it should be there now

thank you @gonewiththeair

Chance me please!

My Stats:

CCC student from Mt San Antonio College (Honors
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.67 (after fall) with a significant upward trend. 4.0 for the 2017 year.
Major Prep: Completed all required coursework.
IGETC: Done
TAP: Yes

Schools Applying: UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, CSULB, CSUF, CSULA

EC:
-Work full time managing a group of 8-16 customer service agents for one of the largest automotive companies in the world.
-Father
-Husband

Background:
Mexican American Male
First generation student
Low income
Older Student (26)

Personal Insight: Medium to Strong. Not my best work. Required essay was on how my first hand experience with policy has shaped my perspective on politics. Essay 1 was on my leadership in bringing together many parties to fix a car which may have saved someone’s life in the future. Essay 4 is on how the CCC has given me a second chance at higher education after dropping out of high school. Essay 5 is on how I have learned to become a student after overcoming a life of significant hardship.
