As mentioned in another thread, I'll be applying to UCLA and UCB under Political Science with a 3.4 GPA and TAP. Borderline, I'd think, but I have some good ECs.

My CCC counselor strongly recommended I enroll at another CCC for one class so I can meet the "4 of 5" prerequisite requirement UCLA has for transfers. The school I'm at only offers 3 of the 5.

I've heard talk here that as long as you have all the prerequisites that your CCC offers complete you'll be okay. Will completing the 4th prerequisite at another school help considering how low my GPA is, or will the difference be negligible?

Yes, when it comes to borderline cases like yourself having TAP and the 4 prereqs helps ALOT. It is absolutly worth the effort friend. With a 3.4, TAP, IGETC complete, and the 4 PoliSci prereqs, you won’t be a lock but you’re not a long shot either.

Good to know, thanks. Any other tips… EC ideas? I’m currently interning for a state legislator, and I may be hired as a staff member for another legislator. Is there any other field-related EC stuff I could do?

FWIW, I’ll actually have a 3.95 counting only community college units, but a bad first year at a private four-year drops me town to 3.45 at best.

Really? Here’s a link to the articulation printout PDF for Santa Monica College (all of the others I’ve seen are the same). It does specify “Four courses from.”

^You can get in with 3, it’s been done, it can just be a deal breaker for borderline cases. and that’s a strong upward trend you got going, with that and your EC’s which the polisci department is going to love I’d say you actually could get in with 3, especially since your CC does not provide the fourth. but if possible i’d make my app just that much stronger by having all prereqs.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to try. I’ve already submitted an application for admission to a CCC that offers a fourth class. It is reassuring to know that I’m not totally SOL if I can’t get it, though.
