Hey everyone! First off I am honored to be accepted into UCLA’s business economics for the class of 2021, but before I make my decisions (considering ucla biz econ, cal pre-business, kenan-flagler assured admit) how does the transfer process work? Like is there an essay you have to write, submit letters of rec, or an application process similar to something like the common app sort of like transferring into Haas? Or is the transfer process for UCLA just fufilling the pre-reqs with the grades and filling out a piece of paper for the guidance counselor? Any help would be appreciated as I am finalizing my decisions. Thanks in advance!
gee, if only it was possible to find info like this with a search engine or on the department website…
@mike8888 First off congratulations in getting into both schools! My situation is a little different as I was a transfer student from a CC into UCLA’s BizEcon program, yet the the process for transfer students and internal students is the same as we are both pre-biz Econ must satisfy the same classes. I saw your post and thought I would give you a heads up. I plead of you to thourougly research the biz/Econ curriculum and talk to current students like myself (I am graduating this year) before you SIR. The major in my opinion (as well as the majority of Econ students) is a horrible! If your looking for a traditional Business undergrad program go to Haas!!! Don’t be confused “BizEcon” is Economics, with the option to take a couple management courses (Entreprenuership, Tax, Finance) the core curriculum is exactly the same, I repeat all Econ (Pretty much all math). UCLA is a great school, don’t get me wrong but the major sucks for students primarily interested in Business. I have taken classes at Haas during the summer sessions as well as sat in some of my girlfriends classes during fall semester (She just recently graduated from Haas CO 17). When I tell you the experience is completely different it an understatement. Haas core courses are very engaging, well put together, and have small class sizes that lead to really intriguing discussion with professors and classmates. UCLA BizEcon core courses are huge (around 300 student plus per class), very dry, poorly designed and taught by a sub par teaching staff. If you are interested in Econ go to Berkeley instead as well. Department is very strong, known world wide for having amazing teaching staff, and more prestigious. If you are interested in Biz, Berkeley is also no brainer. Hope some of this helps, as I know it is not specifically what you asked but had to inform you. If you have already submitted your intent to UCLA, I would strongly advise picking a new major once on campus.
