UCLA Pre-Bus program

How does UCLA's undergrad pre-bus program compare to the business programs of the top schools?

Acceptance rates for transfers to UCLA's prebusiness econ program is around 20%. 1300 applicants for 250 spots(rounded) per year. Average GPA of admitted student was 3.81 for 2006. I'm expected it to hover near 3.8-3.84 this year. Its a tough program to get into.

The only benefit that makes it much easier is that california community college students receive priority. Not to mention the ability to participate in TAP. So if you're a socal student with access to the TAP program from a community college, it may not be so difficult. Just have a good essay and some good ecs ontop of great grades and completed coursework.

Its not so much a business program. But rather a mixture of 60% economics courses and 40% business(mostly accounting). However, its the opportunity to network, you'll be taking business courses with MBA students. As you already know, Anderson is one of the most selective MBA schools in the nation. So you'll be rubbing elbows and doing projects with some of America's brightest business minds. You really can't discount an education at UCLA.

I was in the whole weighing of benefits for UCLA/CAL and UCLA was chosen not only because it is dear to my heart but the benefits just seem to tip the scale.

"However, its the opportunity to network, you'll be taking business courses with MBA students."

Biz econ students taking business courses with MBA students!? Biz econ undergrads can take Mgmt 1A/1B to Mgmt 199. MBA students take classes from the 200 to 400 level. I've never heard of any class that is taken by both undergrads and MBA students and if there is one please post it here because I'll sign up for it!

Financial accounting and managerial economics are normally popular courses that MBAs will take as refreshers in the first quarter. Its sometimes difficult to get back into the grind of school even though we aren't graded most of the time.

If an average pre-major GPA of 3.8+ is required for Bus-Econ, what is the equivalent for the Econ major?

The department says a pre-major GPA of 2.5 is sufficient for declaring an Econ Major. Does this also tend to be higher if the major is over subscribed? Or, do they accept all students who meet the 2.5 pre-major.

TIA.

hmm im an out of state applicant (from NJ/NY area) who was accepted to the UCLA pre bus program, and i was wondering about the networking outside of cali like ny? is that good? hmm

TIA: The whole econ department is extremely impacted. The higher the GPA, the better. No students are admitted straight to the school as Business econ or econ majors. Everyone is "Pre" econ or business until all the reqs are completed and an application has been approved by the committee.
