UCLA: I know my extracurriculars are relatively weak, so would it be better for me to apply as Pre-Med or as Undeclared/Letters & Sciences Major?

I have 2 cousins that graduated from UCLA if that makes any difference.

Thanks so much for your input!

bongbong,

First off, UCLA has no "pre-med" major. At any rate, major plays no role in admission to L&S. You can choose whatever you won't-- it doesn't mean anything.

Secondly, UCLA makes no recognition of legacy.

Finally, UCLA: Match

Well by pre-med I mean a med-based field like biology or chemistry as opposed to political science. So what you're saying is that I can apply as a Biology major and my application won't be scrutinized any more than if I were to apply as a history or asian american studies major?

bongbong,

Your major plays no role in admission to medical school, so the term "pre-med major" is still kind of silly.

And this is what UCLA says on the admission page: "For the College of Letters and Science, the applicant’s major is not considered during the review process." So the answer is no, there is no difference.
