UCLA Psych-need help with what classes to enroll in

hey people so I'm completely lost and unprepared for the 205 session next week. Everyone on here seems that they already know what classes to take/enroll in. Is there a specific website where I can find my requirements for what classes I'll be needing so I can plan what classes to get/ look up back ups for. I've been searching for the reqs but can't seem to find it. help please?

I attended Session 203 and I can give you a heads up.

Counselors suggest sticking to a 12-unit plan consisting of three different classes.

All Psych transfers will need to take Psych 100A in the Fall Quarter. There will be spaces for all transfers already reserved for this class.

Next, all Psych Transfers will need to pick an “easier” Upper-Div Psych Class from a list of pre-chosen options. These include classes such as: Abnormal Psych, Social Psych, Developmental Psych, etc.

Finally, Psych Transfers should pick an “easy elective” course to balance the workload your first Quarter. These are random classes not related to your major. A list of “easy” classes have been made where you can choose from. For example, I picked a class on Black Hole Theory in Astronomy.

Hope this helped.

Andj00 - are we allowed to take Health Psychology for our elective?

Also I thought Social Psych’s prereq was Psych 100A?

What was your Psych elective that you chose?

Did the counselor’s discourage taking 4 classes ?

you sure all psych transfers have to take 100A? i already took Psychological Statistics at my past UC

@transferbound- you should be able to see on your DPR if the Psych 100A requirement has been met… If you already have credit then you may not be required to take 100A…

it says my psych stats course counted and was recorded, but the layout of the URSA DPR page makes it a bit confusing to determine if i actually got the credit

@Transferbound, Sorry, I meant to say all psych transfers from community college must take 100A.

It is an upper div course, and JC’s don’t offer upper-div’s.

@shawnee, i’m taking health psych as my upper-div psych elective :]

@ Andj - oh wow! Cool. What day is your Psych 100A?

Psych 100A MWF Lec 2.

To answer your earlier question, I also learned during orientation that “Requisites” and “Pre-Requisites” are not synonymous.

“Requisites” mean that the school THINKS you should have taken these classes in order to be fully prepared, but they do not prevent you from taking them.

oh got it! thank you!

@andj00: what other easy electives were offered?

Hey UCLAbound20
I went to orientation yesterday.
You don’t really need to have plan exactly what you want.

They will give you a list of classes that the orientation counselor will be able to call in and see if it is still open but it is like a raffle and it is not 100%. Yesterday my oc was only allow to call if for like 5 classes on the list. I got health psychology.

They will give you a list of “easy” classes, you just need to pick one that doesn’t conflict with the 100a and your first and second choice psych class. Your also not restricted form other classes that are open to you so if your planing to take a minor you should chose one the classes you need for the minor that are lower division. I’m taking philosophy 21.

@kurls - how did the counselors determine which 100A to enroll you in?

you pick which 100A you want based on your preference of time

Does anyone here recommend postponing 100A to your second quarter and just taking two psychology core classes?

I wouldn’t because it will only meant that you will be in the pre-psychology longer and not have priority pick for longer. It’s better to get it out of the way…
