Hi I am a future transfer student and want to go to UCLA as either Psychology or Sociology and was wondering…
- which major is less impacted and easier to get into
- what the courses at the University are like for each
- how can I make myself a strong applicant
Thanks
Soc is for sure easier to get into and easier after transfer. But keep in mind they are very different disciplines. I don’t know what your plans are after BA, but you need to consider which will better meet your post grad needs.
I’m actually wanting to become a PA or go to medical school still deciding on that but I have completed a majority of the science classes needed such as Biology and Chemisty at my CC. Will these majors still benefit me and can I take more science classes when I transfer to prepare me more?
Haha, i had to google PA.
Both majors can get you to med school equally. So all things being equal, Soc is a better bet. But, def try and get at least a couple of the required (or higher level) in at a UC so not every chem, bio, physics, etc is coming from a CCC.
Something like 47% of med school admits have humanitites/soc science majors. I read that info somewhere - sorry, don’t have link.
Here is a pre-med course checklist via Cal:

Thanks I was also wondering if I could graduate in one year with medical school pre requisites done and get my undergraduate degree. I am going to finish general chemistry and biology at my CC
or is there another program I can join to get into medical school
If you don’t have any transferable upper division courses already completed, it’s practically impossible to graduate in 1 year after transfer.
I also wanted to ask I changed my major from CS to Psychology or Sociology recently will the CS major classes I took impact my admissions. Will they look at my GPA with the CS classes or just my major GPA?I want to be a strong applicant. Thank you for the help!!
Usually most UC’s for psych and soc have intended GPA’s to range from 3.1-3.9(middle tier to high tier UC’s). In my opinion they would def look at your classes and how the CS classes may have effected your GPA in some way. They also do look at major GPA and overall GPA(although I’m assuming they do put emphasis on your major gpa). Also I would look at this UC Transfer Page…https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
