This doesnt even apply to me but i found it interesting. I've always had the understanding that UCLA or anyother UC campus does not require letters of recommendation. My friend recently told me she received mail from UCLA asking for 2 letters of rec., a resume, and someother material. She is applying as a first time freshmen undergrad. Is it possibly because shes declaring nursing as her major?

Yes, it's because she's applying for Nursing, which requires a supplemental application as well as two letters of recommendation. The UCLA B.S. Nursing undergraduate program is ultra-competitive in that regard.

and i bet they want her to come running down the hall as fast as she can with the papers...

That's weird. But, uh...if it's what they want.
