where does ucla fall, as far as national ranking? and what exactly are they basing the rank on?

who cares? UCLA falls pretty high in any ranking - don't be so concerned about rankings. If you don't want to take this advice and still want to know, you can just search these forums and find several hundred threads about rankings.

25th in US News

25th overall, tied with Georgetown

4th public university nationwide, behind Cal, UMich Ann Arbor, and UVA.

...or you could just wait until people post them here lol

haha much easier.... :D

The London Times THES ranks UCLA as #26 in the world.

In the end, who cares? UCLA is a top-ranked school, blah blah blah.

It's not Harvard, Princeton, Yale, or Stanford. Then again, if you're not one of those four, you're not one of those four. The end.

Oh, and MIT.

UCLA has the prestige and reputation...frankly, thatz what really matters !

Funny how SC cost so damn much and they ranked at #30!

UCLA generally ranks within or around the top #15 in the US. The US News ranking is an anomaly. Still, many people cling to this ranking as the Bible yet those same people often times criticize it. All things considered, including the US News ranking that brings down the UCLA average, UCLA is probably around number 15 in the US.

I sort of disagree with every one here though in that we should not worry about the rankings so much. Of course we should be concerned with how our school compares to others. I think what my fellow Bruins are suggesting is that too many people on this site hate schools like UCLA, Berkeley, and Michigan with a passion. A small but vocal minority refuse to admit the greatness of these schools. What my fellow Bruins dont want to do is get into yet another heated argument over how great/terrible UCLA is. The world recognizes the greatness of UCLA. It makes no sense to get into a big argument on this site with people who obviously dont know what they are talking about yet are quick to voice their opinions.

based on your guys experience do you think the name was worth the price?

contrary to what a lot of people think, many universities (especially private ones) are heavily dependent on the US news rankings. dropping in the rankings = less donations and research grants, and that's their bread and butter. my education professor says public universities cry foul at US news rankings because they're so heavily biased against publics.

i agree.. US news rankings are incredibly biased against public schools.

is it possible for them to take money under the table to boost up certain schools?... whats really stopping them from doing so?

us news isnt incredibly biased against public schools, the other factors that they include, public schools just have less of such as endowment and they hurt in faculty/student ratio also.

if u take out all those other factors and look only at academic prowess and reputation - ucla would be much higher, same with georgetown while schools such washington university st louis would drop a lot.

How would ucla rank in the engineering list? I read something like 13 or 16.

UCLA ranks 15th in engineering.

UCLA CS at #7...wohoo !

chem engg was rank 24 last year and 14 this year!!!!!?? woohoo, for that too. :D
I hope this trend continues.
