lol, UCLA is definitely not in top 15.......................

look at the peer-accessment score.

yea, ucla is famous, coz it's in LA, and the name ucla sounds really cool, but that's it......

Maybe, but is there a huge difference between #15 and #17 anyway?

not really. see, that is the whole point--numbers dont matter. why do these people still complain about how UCLA is ranked 25th and is too low....... there're thousands of colleges in america, ucla is one of the best colleges in U.S., along with harvard, stanford, university of illinois, penn state............(i consider top 100 colleges to be in the same group--excellent places to get an education)

Yea if rankings dont matter why the thread on how UCLA should be ranked higher.

"Yea if rankings dont matter why the thread on how UCLA should be ranked higher."

.....I don't think anywhere on this thread says UCLA should be ranked higher. People just wanted to know here it ranked out of curiosity....

there's also the fact that the vast majority of people on CC are ranking whores lol...

I could find a few posts showing otherwise

That is ridiculous. Do you really believe, without any margin of error, that "peer-accessment" [SIC] is the ultimate decider of a school's ranking? Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. You also implied that the name of a school is statistically significant with regard to its marginal impact on its popularity. In that case, I should have never questioned your obvious intelligence and analytical ability. I guess UCLA is just number 17 and not 15 after all. Good thing its name sounds cool or else it may be number 25 or something.

lol, pick some schools out of the current top 25 colleges that are not as good as UCLA academically.

my picks: Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, WAshingtonU, Notre Dame. That's it.

What top 25 are you talking about? There are many different rankings out there. Truthfully, if you look at most rankings, UCLA generally falls in or around the top 15. If I am not mistaken, US News is the only reputable ranking in which that is not the case.

The best part about the top 25 is that there are 30 schools that are "top 25," and there are 20 schools that are "top 15," and so on and so forth. Such a liquid concept at the top...

"WUStL

Brown"

LOL, anyone who puts Brown and UVa there is out of his mind. i'm sorry u can only get in UCLA

ThomYorke,

You really dont know much about universities do you? Oh yeah, yes you do. Brown must have a cooler name than UCLA and that is why you think it is better.

Flopsy, I remember you are a computer science major, aren't you? Try to know a little more about those computer science departments. Caltech and Princeton are not producing working force for industry. Especially there was a story in SV about how some princeton CS students wrote lousy programs. Mich is not very good at CS. U of Washington probably can make a case for you.

UCLAri, the proof I used is no more anecdotal than those secret conversations you had with some nobody in DC:) Anyway you are right at it is not conclusive, I was just poking some fun. But in SV, USC is at least on the same level with UCLA, if not higher.

I just had to add that i thought it was a bit funny that I didnt even have to go back to find examples.

2bad4u, I hope you arent picking on me! ;)

"i'm sorry u can only get in UCLA"
ok whatever. some people actually chose UCLA for other factors as well. im sorry u dont know the nuances of picking colleges. if i say so myself, LOTS of things influence u academically. if u dont like the college then don't u think that would negatively affect how u perform? i say yes, but thats just me.

anyways i still dont see why this thread is still going. visiting the college is the best way to see for urself. honestly, how can u know a college from the rankings? a simple number dictates where u should spend ur next 4 yrs?

LOL, BROWn offers top-notch liberal arts education, far better than UCLA. HAVE you ever even been to Brown yourself? I've been there many times since my bro goes there, they have a REALLY close community with many intellectuals.(yes, there're stupid people there, but i'm sure there are a lot of stupid people in UCLA and other schools too) You probably got all your information about brown from CC. yes, brown's engineering is not THAT good. but its liberal arts programs are among the best. For engineering, i wouldnt go to Brown. but i'd rather go to Michigan or Illinois if not MIT for engi. than UCLA

Most people consider UCB, Michigan and UVa to be the best public institutions in U.S. for UNDERGRAD, even the people who dont read USNEWS at all think so. UCLA has a good grad school, but i wouldnt put UCLA's undergrad in front of michigan or uva.

alright, let's stop the fight, OK? i respect UCLA, it's not like i hate UCLA or something, I would go to UCLA rather than UCB (weird huh?). It's obviously a great school. i can't stand it when people insult Brown and Uva
