It got my SSN and info stolen, and I'm not even a student there. I just applied. Argh!

BURN THEM ALL!!! ahem Excuse me. What i meant to say was LET'S SEND THEM A STRONGLY WORDED PETITION!!!

So did I, and I applied last year. Had to have a fraud alert placed on my credit report. :(

haha i didn't apply (i was thinking about it last year... but) this makes me even more happier that I didn't go (or apply to) UCLA.. .or something.

i'm not implying I like UCLA or anything, but USC also had an incident last year where a lot of our info was compromised because we got hacked.

Yeah, but we got hacked by a student to show the administration how vulnerable the system is. He didn't steal any information.

and MORE people were affected by UCLA's incident than ours.

Before all of you ride off into the sunset on a high horse, remember that these sorts of events are fairly common at universities. Keep in mind that although the student that hacked the USC servers didn't actually steal anything, he demonstrated that USC wasn't taking any more stringent actions against the possibility of being hacked.

All the news I've read and heard suggests that this is not a rare case. Of course, it's easy fodder for you guys and I understand that, but put it into serious perspective.

We understand that, and hopefully USC has gotten better since then. I'm just bitter that I got my information really hacked, thanks to the rival school. This is a major problem for all of the colleges though, especially with the rise of online applications.

Nikara,

I understand. Believe me, it's not like I'm any happier as an alum. But I think that this just further points out how awfully vulnerable most schools are.

Agreed...!

How do you know your SSN and info were stolen from UCLA's application database?

They send you a lengthy e-mail explaining what happened.
