I can’t seem to access the site it says there’s an error, can anyone type the link.

My friend got his invite in the mail on Saturday. When he told me, I was really disappointed, since we have similar scores and GPAs. But then I got mine today and all is well.

So they offer applications to around 800 and only give out 100 in the end…so what’s the acceptance rate, given that a lot of those 800 will go elsewhere? Just curious.

edit: They say that Regent applicants will be notified of their award at the time of their admissions in mid-March. So I’m assuming that means that we’re already in for sure? I guess you could say that it just means if you get the award, but I’m thinking it just means they’ll tell you whether or not you got the scholarship then.

how many people get regeants?

rooster08, just because you didn’t get it and somebody else did, doesn’t mean that its random.

people who got regents, what is your SAT scores and GPA??

I got regents with a 4.4 and 1950 SAT score at Cal only though. Didn’t hear a word from LA … still ended up choosing LA over Berkeley tho :D

V4runC001, are you an applicant of Fall 2008?
Did anyone already get regents?

Rooster08:
Stanford admission is the same random stuff. I know a non-atheletic guy with 1700 SAT got into Stanford while another person with 2370 was rejected.

Professor101, was the 1700 guy the one on the Stanford forums? Because that guy was pretty impressive and had URM.

HRM… My question is, do you have to apply for financial aid to be considered for regents at LA?

I’m asking this because I got regents for CAL, but not UCLA… which is weird -___-

And if they do only select from California, then I don’t get it… because I got the Siemens AP Award for Cali and I think my other areas are strong too… GRAWR…

Sorry, I’m just being bitter because I like UCLA better than Cal T.T tears

And UCLA regents get more benefits… priority registration!!!
jealous

Aww, I want to switch places with you! As much as I like UCLA, I’ve always been a Cal fangirl and I was pretty upset when I didn’t get the Regents offer from Cal. I didn’t apply for financial aid, but I got the UCLA one anyways. I think they just assess the applicants differently – I wish I knew how, exactly.

I received the Regents Scholarship in Fall of 08. I came from a CCC with a 4.0 and strong personal statements. I have been told by a reliable source that “life experience” and the overcoming of adverse obstacles seems to be nice pluses to an application. I was not involved in any E.C.'s. Also, for the Fall of 08 400 were initially chosen to apply and 20 were offered the scholarship.

The regent’s scholorship is different amounts at different UC’s. Does anyone know what it is at UCLA this coming school year (for freshmen 2009-10)? Also, has anyone gotten more than one regent’s scholorship offer from different UC’s? My theory is you can only get one, but not sure. Just curious.

regents at ucla and cal are VERY different. UCLA’s is very stat driven and cal’s is not apparently. i have never really seen anyone get both.

i got regents from UCLA and UCI, but not UCB cuz i didnt get into Haas!!

with financial aids and regents scholarship combined, i got full rides to both UCLA and UCI but i chose UCLA over UCI cuz i think biz econ at UCLA is way better.

for UCLA regents this Fall 09, it’s $2000 honorarium regardless of ur need and if u need more than that (based on ur EFC in fafsa) then ucla will give u more (i believe its up to $6,900 and considered as univ. scholarship).

I only got the regents from UCLA. From what I know, I have a full-ride for UCLA based on the financial aid notification that i just accepted today. Here’s my stats:

-1990 SAT
-4.68 GPA
-a couple extracurrics (mainly clubs actually, no sports or academic decathlon-too lazy for that)
-salutatorian
-vietnamese female

Because I submitted my FAFSA by the appropriate deadlines, etc, and my EFC is 0 (I’m from a single-mom family, annual income ~$8000/yr), I think that’s why I was awarded a ton of university scholarships to cover the rest of my need. So no loans needed! Woo! I would’ve had to borrow at least 20,000 a year if I only had loans to go on @@.

To me, the Regents is very random too, the valedictorian of my school didn’t get regents, and she was very deserving as well.

However, I do think Regents is a life-saver for someone who is around the poverty-line but does want and strives for an education at the UC’s. For me, I am definitely grateful to be a regents scholar at UCLA!

Hi Tsukamaru, I guess I’ll be meeting you very soon! I also got Regents this year, with a 4.38 GPA and 2140 SAT. I honestly wanted to go to Cal, but financial factors made me change my mind. I still think Cal is “my” kind if place, with the dirtiness and craziness, but I think I’d hate it if I were swamped with studies and work to pay my way through.

The valedictorian of my class was also invited to apply for Regents but he didn’t get everything done on time… Lol

This one girl however, who never took any AP classes and did a few extracurrics (college club, decath, NHS- basically things I never joined) got Regents for Cal but turned that down for the Culverson schol. Yeah, idk about anything like this anymore

Just happy with my finaid~

i got regents as well this year, with a 4.3 GPA and a 1930 SAT… and technically a full ride as well.

nothing from Cal though
but who cares, im happy to be a regents scholar at UCLA =]

Is the initial invitation to apply based totally on GPA and SAT scores or would things like being a published author mitigate a low math test score?

^ How low are we talking about here?
You need good stats + strong personal statements + ec’s…
