UCLA Regents Scholarship

let me guess, kenshin is from Arcadia and his name is david. random guess

wow go arcadia

and i would guess that madame's guess is inaccurate

no, kenshin is william.

oh duh, the 2400 really gives it away.

bah. hey, just curious: are you the general Uesugi Kenshin or the vagabond in Ruruoni Kenshin?

Well, I read this thread late because I'm really not on top of all this money stuff.. but I have a 3.86 unweighted GPA and a 2280. Still not good enough for a Regents from UCLA?

-_______-'

unfortunately all the kids i know who got one had 3.95 ^ and a 2300 or higher. The few kids who got it that i know of stats were 3.95 2400, 3.97 2390 and a 4.0 2300. Its top 1.5 percent out of 55,000 applicants. It sucks but its how it is.

haha alrite.. i guess those stats make me feel better =P

yah i had a... 3.9 and a 2240 and didn't get it. someone i know with a 2250 (i don't know his GPA) did get it.
the best part of regents aside from tuition? YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET PARKING!!!!!
sigh :(
i did get regents at davis however.
but i ended up here anyways :)

hahahah well alot of the top schools on usnews are in CA. Granted USnews is flawed and CA has so many schools, but when you have that many schols and have a strong batch of kids who want to take aps and are good enough to take them at each one, competition becomes a *****. Regardless Sotoraku getting an invite only confirms basically your acceptance. out of those 1.5 percent who do get a scholarship, it hink 10 percent get the actual thing...so take the best of the best...and nwo take more from the cream of the crop. And as great as ur stats are, making the top 10% after a 1.5 percent cut off is pretty hard.

what the lol

sotoraku - rurouni kenshin

who is everybody? O.O

wow i never knew william had a 3.95 i thought he got 3 b's --> opps for spreading false rumor lol
edit: =D everyone believes william has a 4.0 =D

lol y do u guys keep stupidly saying names and city on this forum...it doesnt matter if u think its okay or not but more if the other person is comfortable with it or not.

i think i never said any last names =( and there are many williams so it should be ok lol

anyhow congrat: madambov, promet, kenshinx, and any other arcadians on ucb and la acceptances! =D

wow b and la threads are where arcadians tend to congregate lol

well guess what: we are asians and UCLA and UCB are where asians congregate :)

Berkeley regents came out?

I have a 2100 SAT and 3.9 GPA and I got the UCLA regents. Its not ALL about numbers apparently.

maybe not this year...
cuz last year, with slightly better stats i didn't get it. maybe this holistic thing applies to regents as well?
in any case, congrats!

great job

my great grandpa was regents board president in the 80's

From the UCLA website on the selection process for Regents...

http://www.fao.ucla.edu/regents.html

So, if the top 1.5% of the applicant pool includes 2100 and a 3.9 UC GPA... WOW!

Scores are all over the place for the Regents' scholarships this year, and it seems like the combination for success is strong GPA + strong SAT scores + a few strong extracurriculars or awards. The extracurricular activities don't have to be numerous; it seems like it is better to have only math-related ones, or only music-related ones, etc... If you have awards that support those extracurriculars, that's great, even if there is no direct correlation between the two. For example, if you win science fair A, then that validates the work you've done for science fair B since it's probably of a similar caliber.
