UCLA Regents Scholarships Posted Tonight!

Wow, seems great. So coupled with your low EFC, the combined amount in grants and scholarships will cover all possible expenses like food, housing, transportation, etc.?

Also, do they pick Regents Scholars by major? Do you mind posting some of your ECs?

Hey congrats for the scholarship. Based on my stats i was sure i was going to get it as well, i have no financial need however. If nothing is posted today does that mean i was not awarded the scholarship? or will more people be finding out over the next couple of days? thanks

So nobody else has heard about regents??

Congratulations ggnore! I just checked, and I made Regents too. I’m really surprised, because I thought they required a 4.0, and I received an A-minus in one of my classes once. But yay!

I’m a biz econ major 4.0 and i just got the regents scholarship package too! i’m soooooo excited :D

hey ggnore, did u actually see the regents scholarship amount listed in ur epal??
Cuz in mine, i only saw Federal Pell Grant, Scholarship Recognition Award and Cal Grant. I did’t see any section for scholarship.

this is my gift aid in epal

Gift Aid
Federal Pell Grant $5,350
Scholarship Recognition Award + $5,090
Cal Grant + $7,126

Total Gift Aid = $17,566

That doesnt include the regents scholarship cuz in the booklet they said besides $2,000 honorarium, they’ll give us more if we have financial need.
So i’m wondering where we can actually see it??

so how did you find out you got it??

i got the mail with the congratulations letter and the booklet

hmcn: I got $2000 in Regents scholarship money, but I had a really low EFC. It says that they award $500-$2000 in Regents money if you’re financially needy, so maybe they didn’t think you needed it?

jmason, I found out when I logged into the New Bruins website to check my financial aid.

snailmail?? So it was not in your epal?

link?? thanks

efc of 0 10 char

It’s the myFAO thing: https://www.fao.ucla.edu/myfao/

I logged in to check my financial aid, and right above “Financial Aid Tracking” is another gray box that says “Regents Scholar.” I clicked on that and it took me to my congratulatory letter.

Man, I still haven’t heard back from UCLA or Regents =/.

bummer!! Congrats to you!

@carwatha: I do need it! My EFC is very low too. And i thought they said they’d give every regents scholar 2,000 regardless of financial need. and if we need more than that, the financial aid office would cover it.

this is exactly what is written in the blue booklet:

“Regents Scholars will receive a @2,000 honorarium regardless of financial need. If a Regents Scholar has additional financial need beyond the $2,000 honorarium, the scholar will be awarded according to the terms ser-forth under ‘Need-Based Awards.’”

“The Regents Scholarship need-based award is determined annually and is designed to supplement the Cal Grant A or B award, Pell Grant award and other scholarship awards. If the Regents scholar need in excess of the established Honorarium amount, the Financial Aid Office will award university scholarships and/or university grants to cover the remainder of the scholar’s need.”

carwatha, what did u see in ur epal?

hmnc, if you got it in snail mail, where do you live?

Oh oops, you’re right. Here’s what it says after my financial aid info:

* Non-needy Regents scholars whose Parent and Student Contributions exceed the Cost of Attendance will receive a $2000 Regents scholarship honorarium.

 • Regents scholars who are eligible for need-based awards, will receive a combination of state and/or federal grants, and additional university scholarships to meet their need. The Regents scholarship will supplement the award package with scholarship awards ranging from $500 - $2000. The state and federal grant portion of the award is subject to change based upon review of your file by the Financial Aid Office.

So even if you’re not needy, you should still receive $2000 - and I guess if you’re needy, they assume you already get grants, and give you from $500-$2000 to cover the rest.

Is epal the myFAO site? Here’s what my aid info looks like:
