ucla regents

how many get invited, how many get chosen, and how many end up matriculating? thanks!

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ucla+regents&l=1)

How are Regents scholars notified? Is it with the decision, or separate? (out-of-state)

You have to check [New Bruins - Freshman New Student Guide - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/NewBruins/NSG_Freshmen.htm). It’s under “View your Financial Aid/Scholarship Award Information”. Register for a UCLA Login ID. Hopefully, at this point, the Regents congratulatory letter will be staring you in the face. Good luck!

I assume that if, at this point, the letter is not staring you in the face, you didn’t get the scholarship?

Welp, I slightly exaggerated. The letter won’t appear immediately after registration. If you don’t see “Regents Scholar” under the “Notice” heading, then it would be fair to assume you’re not in.

I found out I was a Regent’s Scholar when I went to look at my financial aid award. It was clearly listed right there. Quick question- does the money you get from the university cover food and things like that. For example, the cost to attend is $29,702 and my award is $28,885. Does that mean that the remaining $817 is all I’ll be expected to pay towards ANYTHING related to the university?

kwwboarder,

Congratulations! Getting Regents Scholar means all your needs will be covered.

Yes, you are expected to pay only $817 which should be the amount of your EFC. Link to the Cost of Attendance [Fees, Tuition, and Estimated Student Budget - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/budget.htm)

Keep in the mind that the COA is an estimate especially on personal expenses. If you live very very cheap, maybe you won’t even have to pay the $817.

BusyMei, do you know if the Regents Scholarship will cover any summer sessions you plan on registering for at UCLA?

My brother profited a couple thousand $$ his first year, and also profited when he did summer session.

Are you saying that Regents Scholarship covers expenses and fees for summer sessions if you have financial need?

I don’t know why exactly he got more FA than his expenses, but he did. I don’t think any of that was strictly speaking scholarship money, and I don’t know if he got extra in grants because of his scholarship. One caveat is that we live ~20 minutes from UCLA and he took the bus ($23 for a quarterly pass) from home.

Regents Scholars will get $2000 per year no matter what. But if you have financial need, all your need will be covered by additional scholarships or grants minus your EFC.

Analgesia,
I have no idea about summer session.

ThisCouldBeHeavn,
College FA uses what the college estimates as your expenses, not your actual expenses. Usually FA doesn’t give you more than the estimated expenses.

Check out the link I posted above for the UCLA estimate. In the Living with Relatives column, Transportation is estimated to be $1,959 per year. So for 3 quarters, your brother spent $69 instead. Good for him! Nice “profit” :)

the regents scholarship is VERY VERY VERY GENEROUS.
i had an EFC of 0… and lets just say i get way more money than I need, and it goes towards other ends… (:
seriously, bless the regents scholarship. it’s amazing!

I was also referring to summer session

It says I got a scholarship of around 15000 for applying early as to the march 2 deadline for fafsa? If there is no regents scholarship listed is it safe to assume i didnt get it? Did you need to apply for the regents or would they simply hand it to you?

They sent applications out last month, if you didn’t get one you didn’t qualify.

I got the congratulatory letter in the mail
