Powerful Statement
Strong ECs and Community involvement
*im also Native American =]

i didn't have their pre-reqs done either but im hoping for cal still
but that seems unlikely ='[

bring back prop 209!!!!

what are u talking about? prop 209 is still in effect

Not directly.

They cannot see your race on your application in a direct manner, but if the adcoms can draw something from your essays, or through other methods of application analysis, then it may be taken into consideration.

yes thats prop 209 in effect

prop 209 makes it illegal to "grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting"

prop 209 is directly in effect in california and has been since 1996 when it was passed

That's not direct; if AA was directly allowed, adcoms would be legally able to see your race, parential salary, etc when viewing your application.

Look up the Houte Report for more information on how UCB uses race in decisions, and how they gain that information.

yes thats what im saying...

209 and AA arent the same thing, which is why i think your misunderstanding what I'm saying...

209 makes AA illegal...

209 is directly working hence race, income, etc cannot be looked at dirrectly by UCB

what i meant to say...
***end prop 209

what AA did in the UC application process before prop 209 is allow admissions to take in account the disparities of social stratification/the correlation of class and race and the overall inequalities in american society.
the way the UC application process values merit is very one sided usually benefiting those of a privileged background given more opportunities which in turn shows in the form of GPA, test scores, and strength of school.

they state that I have to have GPA 3.75 or above and no C's in the current semester.....which means if I have 1 C or 2 B's, they have the right to reject me.....
[/quote]

Whooa that's crazy how they specify the gpa you need...

I wonder why they only say 'maintain your grades' for the majority of applicants...

because I am taking three pre-reqs

So I called UCLA and they told me they rejected me because I didn't have the necessary 90 qtr units by spring, but they didn't count my IB exam credit, which I clearly put in my application

are they going to reconsider your application?

alansda- Where did you call? I want to know why I was rejected too. :o It would help a ton to know bc then I can address it in my appeal. Thanks!

I have to call back on Wednesday to talk directly to an evaluator and see what's up, but they'll probably just ask me to appeal, but I still have my fingers crossed! :D

WOT: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1060266385-post175.html

Good luck! :)

Thanks and it'll definitely be to your benefit to call and ask...who knows, maybe they messed up your GPA or overlooked a class

I HOPE that's what it was. I would be really hurt if they said something along the lines of
me: So can you please tell me why I was rejected?
random person: ...ohh just cuz

:(!!!! Pursuing this appeal is definately worth it for me.

really you deserve to get in
