Ucla Rejects Unite :(

Rejected. International. 1530 SAT (760M 770V), 3.7 GPA, 10 AP's. Oh well.

For those who are posting acceptances... what is your reasoning?

This thread title obviously says "Ucla Rejects"

Do you like rubbing your achievements in other people's faces? You could celebrate without making other people feel worse.

On the other hand, congratulations on your acceptance and I wish you good luck in your academic future (at UCLA or wherever it may be).

ado, you brave soul for speaking up. :)

i'm bitter about the whole UC system for various reasons, but i'm not alone. hardly. i didn't even apply to UCLA but i can certainly empathize with the rejects here. i'm busy looking for a UCSD rejection thread because i have a feeling that i'll be spending much time with it as soon as march 21 (or maybe march 15) hits.

i have a friend who got rejected from Dartmouth and she's our class valedictorian. her words of wisdom were "Just because you get a rejection doesn't mean you're not good enough. You've done what you can, you worked hard, and you got the best grades that you can get. Once that application's sent off, the decision is out of your hands." it's hard to see it from that perspective. we're still part of some plan no matter where we go.

*sigh. chocolate's really good for times like these.

It is hard to be on the end of a rejection, even when it wasn't to your first choice school. No one likes to be told they weren't wanted. Be angry or sad, but then move on. It just didn't happen.

To those of you who got in, please realize how many people worked so hard because they wanted your seat in that lecture hall and make good use of this publicly supported education.

We need more UCs in California, so each UC can accept all qualified Californians and a number of transfer students.

Well, that's why Merced was built.

And I heard that the UCs accepted like the top 14.4% of high school students last year instead of their target of 12.5%.

That's why they're raising the minimum GPA to 3.0 for the class of 2007, to cut down on the amount of people who are UC eligible.

i hate ucla. they're basically the reason why ive done everything for the past 12 years. i mean come on, who REALLY cares about csf or nhs? community service? signing up for bs classes? its all a game. and i just happened to LOSE.....i would post a four letter word here but seeing as cc cancelled my previous account i had better put my potty mouth to rest. BUT I STILL HATE UCLA

2vulgar. that attitude is why you got rejected. Not having any passion or any point to what you are doing and doing everything for something superficial is exactly what colleges hate.

irock, because they can totally see through it and all. because they look that hard into their applicants. because they care who their applicants are outside test scores and gpa's.....give me a break!

When I see students with 1400+ SATs and 3.5 to 4.2 gpa get rejected by UCLA it makes me ill. You can't earn those kind of scores without being smart and working hard-- it should get you in almost anywhere.

2vulgar: Where else did you apply? Maybe you'll have better luck at the other schools.

Rejected.

GPA: 4.2
SAT I: 1330 (670V 660M)
SAT II: 690/700/720
ACT: 31
strong ecs
in-state

I knew it was a tossup, but I'm still sad because UCLA was my top school. :( My essays prob. weren't good enough..I don't know. UCSD is my last hope prays

"We need more UCs in California, so each UC can accept all qualified Californians and a number of transfer students."

Mr.B, with 6.3+ million children in California public schools (according to data available on the CA Dept of Education website) and who knows how many students in private/independent schools, California just can't afford to build more UCs right now or pay to provide more students with an undergraduate education.

UCLA this year was all about the essays and a very few minor details. Most essays probably had "struggle" as their theme. Good job everyone.

????? more people supposed to make more money...

am waiting on UCSD too

For those waiting on UCSD.. something to pass the time

I found this really interesting. Just chanced on it in a random Google. Almost seems like it's not true? It's pretty recent though... Who knows. Read if you're bored :)

Copy paste it removing the space to avoid the ...

" h ttp://alumni.ucsd.edu/magazine/vol1no2/features/admissions.htm"

iono anymore...although UCLA isn't my 1st choice (UCSD is), i was disappointed n ****ed cuz itz an unfair system.

iono if UCLA was all about the essays cuz i wrote my essay about a "struggle" and it was really touching (my counselors loved it).

my friends wrote about the themes that a lot of ppl write about n got in w/ sat below 1200 and gpa below 4.0 n very bad sat 2. i really dont know how they got in cuz they dont have a lot of other stuff either ( guess they're low income n 1st generation n legacy) well thats kinda unfair.

I'm not really mad for myself cuz i always knew UCLA was my reaaaach but now that i c ppl who don't deserve to get in as much as i did, i get *ed. i'm not that "jelly" i'm just *ed cuz of the whole unfair system.

"????? more people supposed to make more money..."

A higher population does not necessarily mean more money or else China and India would be the richest nations.

California is still in a budget crisis and building a university costs billions to hire staff, design, buy the land, etc.

Yes, seeing 1400s and 4.0s get rejected is a harsh reality. But remember, 4 different people read these applications and it only takes one to lead to a rejection letter. UCLA does not have a standing committee. If blame must be awarded, the admission counselor(s) that denied you are at fault, not the entire institution of UCLA, it's students, its faculty etc.

With that said, I hope that each applicant that the admission counselors have denied find themselves at universities this fall that appreciate their individual talents and not an SAT score or G.P.A. Good luck.

eh, am going to NYU, it's LA's loss

"A higher population does not necessarily mean more money or else China and India would be the richest nations."

depends on the population. less educated population makes less money, more eduacted population makes more money. Population here does not seem to be educated enough because does not make enough money (and rejects guys with 4.3 gpa and 1400+ SAT that shows its future)
