is any1 appealing?

Here is how the UCLA Admission works. Unlike private schools that review admission committees, UCLA sends its applications to 4 people (of a pool of many admission officers--some high school counselors, etc.); if anyone of the 4 individuals rejects your application, UCLA denies you admission.

So, you must get a unanimous approval from 4 different people who do not correspond whatsoever; unlike, where at Georgetown, a committee votes you in or out (so majority).

Isn't the "four person gauntlet" the way Caltech conducts its admission approval process as well?

I'm not too sure...perhaps I fell into my own trap of generalizing.

I stand corrected: Some private schools use admission committees.

Yes, yes I will.

Gotta say this, guys. I know how you feel. I have been there with both a S and a D. (youngest D was accepted today) At the time, we thought life was so unfair...their stats were acceptable, well-rounded kids, etc. It IS an arbitrary decision to a certain extent. Do not make the mistake of judging your value based on strangers' decisions. Both S and D ended up with just extraordinary experiences at out of state school, while their particular UCLA friends/peers didn't seem to find the niches that my kids did. (I believe, however, that many kids do have great experiences. It's just that these few friends didn't.)
In hindsight, neither of my kids has any negative feelings about the process. They are both just thankful that they ended up where they did. Very thankful. We often laugh about it now as we think how different it would have been...people they wouldn't have met, experiences they wouldn't have had. It really does all work out, though I know that is hard to hear now. UCLA is a good school--but there are many other schools that provide an equally good environment and education. We know--we've been there. Best of luck with other schools.

I'll probably appeal UCLA has really weird admissions though. This year it seems they took the really high people especially SAT 1 and no one w/ good ecs, transcript, APs etc

they denied me: 1460 , 4.3 GPA, ELC... what the fu(k?

UCLA I didnt expect them to be this picky this year lol.

It's all about the essay.

My advice, APPEAL. I can already tell you that they'll be in need of someone to fill my spot, because I'm most likely going somewhere else.

Rejected; 1220 sat 3.9 gpa, well I didn't accually want to go to UCLA :)

andrew should be in for sure

you can thank budget cuts and having the largest applicant pool in the nation, uclippers - they can afford (perhaps the wrong word haha) to be picky

With regard to appeals, I can guarantee you that it won't work unless something was incorrect on your application or something similar to that. Having better grades now or just thinking that its unfair that you got rejected WILL NOT help you. As EG pointed out, you have to be unanimously approved by four adcom members who read your application at home and who have no communication with other adcom members.

Congrats to all of you who were accepted! Hopefully we'll see most of you here at UCLA next year :)

yeah, i already got into my dream school (notre dame) early action, so it's not that huge of deal.. but it was kind of suprising, people were telling me UCLA was a match, i live instate and go to a school that UCLA has traditionally been pretty nice to. considering I haven't got a B since freshman year, and had a 1460 on the SAT with decent SAT 2's (upper 600s, lower 700s). I just can't figure out a reason why i got denied.. maybe they hated my essays?

I made two mistakes on my application (though they weren't very important, I put a class as Japanese 1A instead of Japanese 1 and I wrote the wrong year for a job I worked at)

I got promoted to Co-Webmaster at my school site though, which is a huge step up from what I had before. So yeah, good luck to me...

yeahh andrew. this kid is my best friend, we go way back. we both got rejected. so did pretty much everyone from our school. i think ucla hates our school, the rejected pretty much everyone with good stats. i just dont understand.
