I know someone that is telling everyone he got into UCLA with a 26 ACT, mediocre essays and no extracurriculars. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he got into some division of the school. Does anyone know what this might be?

Maybe music, if he had an awesome tryout. Same thing at my school, although I'm in-state. He got in with a 1530 SAT (out of 2400), but his audition was amazing..apparently. It still made me a bit jealous ;).

Kid I know this year got into Cal with 1610 SAT, 3.6 GPA, and no outstanding ECs.
It's called winning the lottery.

Friend got into UCLA biology with 1210 SAT, 3.9 GPA, and outstanding ECs.

may be the nursing major?

Do they have a General Studies school? Community college? etc.? (I'm reasonably sure he didn't just get into UCLA)

I call shenanigans... A 26 ACT is equivalent to a 1850-1900 SAT I, I believe.

One of my goofy classmates got in with a barely 4.0 GPA, a sub1900 sat, and lied about his EC's. He got into CAL as a fall student. No frills

I got into CAL as a spring admit, need to pay extra money (that's if I'm going there), disadvantaged, and can't take science classes 1st semester. I am ranked in my school and have a plethora or leadership (not just volunteer) activities and steller teacher recs.

It's called life and taking it as it is. I am still really happy and grateful b/c I know that those people who got luckky and stumbled their way into top universities will eventually get weeded out or pay their dues later. You can cross one hurdle by luck, but you can't win the race by luck.

Good luck to you.
