UCLA Residency!! Anyone know any lawyer??

After I have asked them about questions on how to establish residency, I hate them so much. They just want to steal your money!

I was a US citizen, my parents are not.
I have filed tax return as a independent starting from last year. Never filed tax return as independent or dependent before.

My community college saw my proof of filing tax return, they changed my status to ca resident. Both of my community college are willing to change my residency status.

However, UCLA need you to be self-sufficent for two years!
So what's going on?? Let's say, if I started to be financial independent this year. but they say I dont have proof for TWO years of self-sufficent. And then, since I cant proof im self-sufficent, they are charging me non-resident tuition fee, which is like 2 times more??? Are they trying to steal money??

I filed tax, but they say Im not self-sufficent.

Anyone know about lawyer that can help me on this???

<a href="http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/faq/residence.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/faq/residence.htm</a></p>

jus more info

I have read it thousands of times, I am ready to work in their department and declining people as a resident.

the question of residency doesn't depend on whether or not you have filed tax returns, but how long you have lived here. do you have proof (utility bills etc.) than you have lived here MORE than one year and you want to make CA your home?

I have been here for 3 years already. This is my fourth year.

All they want is the proof of self-sufficent for two years, which seems non-sense to me.
What if Im starting to be independent now??
I dont understand, as long as I file tax return as independent, then Im independent. Why do they need to see if you are sufficent or not?
If Im not sufficent, then they would like to increase my tuition fee by 2 times??

you should go to the registrar's office and voice all your concerns in person. maybe they'll listen to you and answer your questions. we sure can't.

hidehide,

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Pester them until the cows come home.
