So I did some digging online, and I saw that UCLA’s school of Dentistry that you cannot have more than 70 unit hours at a community college and it said you cant be at one for more than 3 semesters. I have already completed my third semester, and will have a total of 6 by the time I transfer to a 4 year school which will be UCSD or UCLA. Is there anyways around that 3 semester limit if I want my dental practice at UCLA, or is all hope lost? PS, I will transfer with under 70 units. I am so stressed over this right now.
Are you talking about undergrad or graduate?
The School of Dentistry requires an undergrad degree. The restriction you see for community college say that the maximum is 70 semester units or 105 quarter untis (which just under 2.5 years if you use their metric of 30 semester units per school year). https://www.dentistry.ucla.edu/learning/pre-requisites-requirements-admission
Since it sounds as if you are still in community college, then you’ll need to transfer to a 4-year school (in California you can’t transfer prior to junior level) to complete your undergrad degree before you can apply to the Dental school. Score well on your Dental Admission Test (DAT) and you should be fine.
It sounds as of you need to speak with the Transfer counselor at your Community College as soon as possible, since the application period for Fall 2016 transfer admission is coming right up on November 30th.
I wont be transferring for a while, but if I stay at my community college for 4-5 years and then transfer to a 4 year and then apply to dental school, do you think it will be hard since I went to a community college for that long?
