Ok, so I checked the other forums and there's no "Sororities" thread...

Really specific question:

Kappa Kappa Gamma vs Delta Gamma? What can you tell me that their websites won't? Both look fun and the girls all boast high GPAs and teeny waistlines, so I'd like some outside input. Superficial? Slutty? Boring? Spill it!

Also, do you think joining a sorority as a transfer is a bad/good idea? I've literally never heard of anyone doing it before, but I'm sure it's done.

Thanks for the input and silly comments in advance.

I remember SimonPhase went Greek and recommended it in that Q&A thread of his. It might be a bit hard to be really ‘in’ per se, don’t you think? But… You don’t have to be a freshman to rush, so I’m guessing girls from upperclass do as well? I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea. Can’t say if it’s a good one, though.

Side note: My friend’s in Delta Gamma UCLA and she loves it. Haha (:

i was considering joining a sorority however i lurked on a few of the sorority boards & websites and found an interesting blog i was disgusted yet im still on the fence, its good for networking isnt it?

they are REALLY REALLY superficial.

you absolutely have to look pretty/cute for them to like you, you have to do a lot of girl flirting

i would have to give up a lot about what i stand for and put on that superficial mask but its good for networking isnt it? idk
i dont think imma sell out though, i am still not sure if i want this.

^ I would say that’s more true for the “top” sororities.

But once you go to the more “lower tier/middle tier” ones it doesn’t play as big of a role.

Just first hand experience, I went to an event at UCLA and saw some AEPhi girls. One of their members is handicapped (she was really small and in electric wheelchair…not sure what the condition is) but she was surrounded by her sorority friends and well liked despite everything.

But it seems like the OP (and most girls) are more interested in “top” sororities.

So heres a small breakdown of UCLA greek life in terms of rankings ( I don’t necessarily agree with these, its just how it is.) Also DG is tight, they do stuff with my house all the time. I have friends in both houses and they are both cool, I would go down to rush and see who you get on well with and see whoever prefs you!

Anyway,

TOP

Alpha Phi
Theta
Delta Gamma
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Chi O

@erikuh- yeah, I hate to put it that way, but I guess I am. What can I say? Who you know and where you went opens doors. The most important thing is scholarship and it seems Delta Gamma places a lot more emphasis on it than KKG. Events are fun and whatnot, but seeing every officer in the sorority have a 4.0 is encouraging.

@edelynly- Please gawd I hope real sororities aren’t anything like that! haha

@janethedoe- that blog was nuts. She sure is opinionated! I’m straight as an arrow but I rock at girl flirting. We’ll just have to see.

If you are going to rush you shouldn’t worry about how the house is ranked. You should pledge the house where you feel most at home. But I definitely think it is a good decision, I pledged my Freshmen year at CSULB and I’ve missed it being at jc. I can’t wait to join my sorority again at a UC in the fall!
