UCLA spring semester enrollment

Hi all,

I'm currently enrolled in a 4-year University but I want a change. My goal is UCLA through a California Community College (I'm from California.) So I've got a couple of questions I couldn't really figure out answers for:

1) Would it be better to basically scrap my year of college and start fresh at a CCC? Will that improve my chances of getting into UCLA?

2) If I get accepted into UCLA for fall 2013 as a junior, is it possible for me to defer for a semester and enroll in the spring? I ask because my current plan involves backpacking for a semester, so my four cc semesters would potentially be summer 2011, fall 2011, summer 2012, and fall 2012.

Thanks a lot.

You must include all previous colleges in your app.

UCLA is on quarter system, 3 quarters per year.

While you can transfer to a community college, you cannot pretend you did not attend the 4-year school. You will be required to report all college work attempted and submit all transcripts. There is a national clearinghouse for the information, so you will not be able to “hide” the fact you attended the 4-year school.

I do not believe UCLA would defer admission to winter. Perhaps you could backpack the following summer.

So even if I couldn’t pretend that I didn’t go to school, and it’s not like my grades are bad or anything (I’m thinking that I’m going to get at least a 3.5), I know that UCLA gives community colleges preferences, so would it be possible to apply to those colleges based on my community college transcript, or through the special programs that california community colleges have to get students into UCs?

Yes, you can enroll in a California Community College to take advantage of the transfer priority. I do not know how many semesters you need to be considered a ccc transfer, but you can post on the [UC Transfers - College Confidential](UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums) forum - they will fill you in. One key is to complete the IGETC courses [University of California - Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/requirements/additional-requirements/igetc/index.html) , and it is likely that your courses at your 4-year will apply to some of those requirements.

thanks a lot everyone
