UCLA Stats

Doesn’t it seem like the stats UCLA gives is kinda low (even for the impacted majors). Because it seems like everyone on CC says you have to have at least a 3.8+ and stellar EC's and essay to get in yet, from the UCLA's stats for impacted majors it’s somewhere between 3.4-3.6. Even when you consider about 65% had TAP that still is a far cry from what many say you need to have to even have a chance.

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof06_mjr.htm

I know, I thought the same thing when I first saw the stats.

Anyone have the stats for uci?

the overall admit rate seems really high .

Ya, it seems like two different stories. The stats say not that tough and everyone else says extremely hard.

This goes for the Berkeley stats too.

i think everyone on here makes it seem like its so hard to get into LA/Berk because the majority of ppl that post on here are either Berkely prospective Haas students, or UCLA Business Econ/Comm students. And those are basically the 2 hardest majors to get into at either school. If you are majoring in anything else besides those majors (and engineering), it's fairly "easy" to get in.

not really. I got in w/ ~3.5. A lot of my friends got in w/ much lowe. Some even w/ 2.9. A lot of 3.2s,

As long as u do ur igetc, most major prereqs, ucla will try its best to find a spot for you.

It depends on the major...

UCLA fails a lot of freshman.

3.81 for bizecon. Nice.

I agree with Citan. It depends entirely on the major and on the applicant pool.

Oilpaw is right; the stats seem really low even for the harder impacted majors.
Bizcon & comm are the only majors that go all the way up to 3.8 but 95% are about 3.5 or lower; even for other impacted majors like polisci, history and sociology are 3.5.

That's because polisci, history, and soc aren't true impacted majors. They're considered "lightly impacted", which means that while there's a lot of interest in them, they can generally accommodate most of the eligible applicants. Comm and Bus Econ are particularly impacted because the demand greatly exceeds the number of students that can be accommodated. While all of the "impacted" majors are noted as such by the school, only the majors which are truly impacted require the super high gpas.

All I’m saying is that 3.5 seems very low for any major, "lightly impacted" or not.

Eh, it just depends. I know lots of people who've gotten in with 3.4s and lots who've gotten in with 3.9s. The majority of my friends (all North Campus majors) transferred with 3.45s-3.65s.

it terrifies me that even 3.9's can be rejected from uc berkeley =( i wish berkeley would just admit everyone with a 3.8 and above lol.

3.9 rejected from Cal depends on major....EECS and Haas yes, but not majors like English

3.49 and 3.5 does seem kinda low for UCLA now I look at it...

Can anyone give their guess what the average admitted GPA's for Sociology and Polisci are at Berkeley

Hmmmm...I Think it's from a 3.7 to 4.0....The SCs are pretty competitive so I think the GPA is higher than 3.4 or 3.5

The only majors that apply to the description you've stated are Business Econ and Communications (I'm only referring to the College of L&S).
