UCLA student tasered in library

...in case you are, like me, only visits the transfers forum
I didn't hear about this till now :P

thats so messed up

oh you people need to shut up. The kid had it coming to him. He would not leave the library. That video started late. He was causing a HUGE disruption in the library. He was yelling and causing a scene. The cops asked him to leave repeatedly and he yelled in their face. I know UCLA is a liberal college, but the kid deserved everything that he got. AND DONT TELL ME HE COULDNT STAND UP BECAUSE HE WAS TASERED. Taser effects only affect people for like a minute. Im happy he got tased.

The question is whether he was on the way out and got tasered, or whether he refused to leave and got tasered. I couldn't pick this information up from the video, but if anyone else did, it would help me form an opinion on this.

I could understand the use of a taser if he posed a physical threat, but clearly he did not. When someone is passively resisting it's not appropriate to try to tase them into compliance.

Let me guess, he was black?

With respect to the above question, he was tasered while he was handcuffed on the floor, because he refused to get up.

He was also in the process of leaving the building when the officers stopped him. Apparently he got into an argument with them, was thrown to the floor, and cuffed.

I got this info from cnn somewhere. They say he was just standing there and arguing with the cops. So, he wasnt on his way out and deserved to do the electric slide. ANd how well he did the electric slide!

He wasnt passively resisting. DUHHHHHHHHH DIRK! He was causing a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dis ruption in the QUIET library. That is NOT passive. You protestors, when will you learn........

passive resistance:

Resistance by nonviolent methods to a government, an occupying power, or specific laws, as refusing to comply, demonstrating in protest, or fasting.

He was being disruptive while still being nonviolence (hence passive).

The officers did not say "shut up or we will tase you", they said "get up or we will tase you [again]". Clearly they were tasing him because of his refusal to walk out of his univeristy library in handcuffs.

The student probably overreacted to the situation, but that dosn't justify the use of a taser against him.

With a name like Mostafa Tabatabainejad, I shouldn't think so.

dude, the kid deserved it. There are kinds of passive resistence. You dont interrupt me while im studying for a test in the library at like 1130 at night?! ***?!?! If you do your research into your vietnam conscientious objectors (your idols, most likely) you will see that they had demonstrations in fields, but never interrupted quiet places without getting arrested or shot (except for kent state bc the cops there were idiots). Mostafa got what he deserved.

"Taser effects only affect people for like a minute."

The pigs clearly didnt wait a minute before they continued to tase the student. Its not like the cops were in any danger. there was three of them one one student. He wasnt going to pull some crazy move to take them all down...A person usually doesnt become defensive unless someone comes at them in a rude way....

"the cops there were idiots"

rightttt and these cops werent

nobody on this god damn thread has ever been tased (i can tell by your insensitive/ignorant comments)

if you nerds knew anything, besides school, books, and As As As...then maybe you'd know that after getting a few times, you can be paralyzed for 10-15 minutes...he couldn't get up and those RACIST, IDIOT PIGS should have known the capability of the weapons they were using...

they either knew the kid can't get up, but decided to be jerks about it

or

they didn't know the capability of their weapon

either way, they used too much force....

i'm not gonna defend the kid, i dont know the whole story, but based on the video i can at least say the cops didn't know what they were doing when they tased him multiple times and dont tell me this isn't race related bc cops wouldn't taze a white professor or asian-female, etc for just yelling

Its nice to see that you call the police of this country "pigs." But what can I expect from a liberal teenage something kid like you? You probably object to all types of authority. Whatever. They so did wait a minute. If you know how a taser works, you know that it consists of many electric shocks at once, making up what people know as a "shock." After the first series of shocks, they gave him at least a minute to get up and leave...but he didnt. What really ****es me off about this video are how stupid the kids are when they are saying "I want your badge number." Now thats annoying. I tend to hate people say that in general.

by the way, the guy is iranian-american

This is sooo not race related, and I dread the fact that this happened at one of the most liberal schools in the US. IF this had happened like at UF this sooo wouldnt have been a big deal. But no....its gotta happen in LA, THE MECCA FOR ALL THINGS LIBERAL (Besides NYC, Of course). I dont give a crap if the kid was mideastern. The kid was obviously looking to cause a scene and he got what he deserved. I bet that asian kid in the beginning was *ed that the dork was making so much noise because he was obviously typing a paper (that was probably due the next day). I know I wouldve been *ed.

"i dont know the whole story"

exactly

I dont know if youre taking my side, citation x, but if you are, then thanks for using common sense.

Already they are protesting - and no doubt buses full of outsiders will be soon arriving - just like in the DUKE (FAKE) RAPE CASE - they won't wait until any facts are in

how about you bookworms go back to studying in your isolated, little sheltered environments...what would you naive little pricks know about police brutality and racism?

the video is clear enough to tell he got tased and IMMEDIATELY was asked to stand up...he wasn't a threat laying on the ground...

sure he was whiney, sure he was being disruptive but was he a threat to the police mens' safety? no, he clearly wasn't trying to pick a fight..he was just being obnoxious, loud, and disruptive..you dont taze a guy multiple times for being loud..thats just unnecessary.

The detailed facts should soon be available

My gut reaction (just an opinion) based upon watching and listening to the vdeo and reading several accounts of the incident - is that the student was looking for trouble - and in fact the 2 extra officers with the taser (as I understand) were only called in when the monitor (or whatever) asked the student for the ID and asked them to leave - in which case the student refused to show and ID and also refused to vacate the building, and was tasered (in part) after apparently encouraging other students to interfere

He sounded like a drama junkie, especially screaming about the THE PATRIOT ACT as this had nothing to do with the PATRIOT ACT
